Living here Ticos expect you to live by their rules (it is their country after all). Costa Rica is steep in tradition and religion controls a huge part of their lives. As a result homosexuality is looked down on and Ticos would rather not see it. There are laws in place that protect the gay community down here, but they still rather not know you're gay.
