| | National Hispanic Heritage Month - ASL Duration : 187 Seconds Hola! My name is Carlos and I am proudly Guatemalan. That's where my family originally came from. What a beautiful country! "Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period." Again, my name is Carlos and I am president of Texas Latino Council of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. | | mangrovebirds2.avi Duration : 628 Seconds Save Our Songbirds, www.saveoursongbirds.org, presents a collection of bird images taken in mangrove swamps in the Area de Conservación Guanacaste, a UNESCO World Heritage Centre in Costa Rica. These images were taken while we were doing research on forest birds using these swamps. Birds were captured and tagged with numbered, aluminum bands for the purpose of keeping track of individuals. The photography was incidental to the study and increased the handling time of each bird pictured by no more than 30 seconds. Birds were measured, weighed, banded & promptly released. No birds were injured during this process and all were released. Study sites include Santa Rosa National Park-sector Naranjo, Refugio de Vida Silvestre Iguanita and Parque Nacional Marino las Baulas de Guanacaste in the Area Conservacion Tempisque. These locations are readily accessible from Liberia, the capital city of the province of Guanacaste.
