Este evento se realizó en el marco del XX Encuentro Nacional de Literatura que organiza el Centro Cultural Cayena de la Universidad del Norte en Barranquilla (Colombia). Entre los escritores invitados se encuentran: Roberto Burgos Cantor, Nahum Montt, Ramón Illán Bacca, Alonso Sánchez Baute y John Jumieles, entre muchos otros. It is said to be primarily a fusion of Jamaican ska with Trinidadian calypso, but is also influenced by a wide variety of musics from the British Isles and United States, include sea shanties, hymns and spirituals. Spouge instrumentation originally consisted of cowbell, bass guitar, trap set and various other electronic and percussion instruments, later augmented by saxophone, trombone and trumpet. Janice Millington, musician and author, lists the American and British influences as including Welsh, Scottish and Irish elements, "transmitted through literature and poetry (Shakespeare and Milton), rhymes, folk songs, sea shanties, classical music, hymns, and other songs of praise (all of which have) been constantly available, providing entertainment, edification and general education to all people of Barbados. North American love songs, parlor songs, African-American spirituals and folk hymns, and hillbilly music have also contributed to a cultural mixture in which the love of a song, the expression through movement, and demand for theater continue to be of paramount importance". James Robinson, David Florence Professor of Government at Harvard University, gave a course entitled 'The Peculiarities of Colombian Economic History', held between July 11-22 at Universidad de los Andes as part of the International Summer School 2011 of Faculty of Economics. This specific session had place on 19 July, 2011, and was entitled 'The Colombian Electoral Tradition: Longer? Why? Meaningful?', as part of this summer course offered by Professors Robinson and Malcolm Deas (Emeritus Fellow of St Antony's College (Oxford) and Honorary Doctorate, Universidad de los Andes). Neruda wrote in a variety of styles such as erotically charged love poems as in his collection Twenty Poems of Love and a Song of Despair, surrealist poems, historical epics, and overtly political manifestos. In 1971 Neruda won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Colombian novelist Gabriel García Márquez once called him "the greatest poet of the 20th century in any language. Veinte poemas de amor y una canción desesperada (Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair) is one of the most famous works of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. Published in 1924, the poetry collection launched its author to fame with just 19 years old and is one of the most renowned literary works of the twentieth century in the Spanish language.
