The mall was full of spectators. Colombians and tourists watch the exhibition. Chipichape Mall is only a short taxi or bus ride from nearby Cali Hotels. Chipichape is only a few minutes from Cali Plaza Hotel, Intercontinental Hotel , Four Seasons Hotel and many others. Chipichape has many banks and ATM machines, where foreigners can safely exchange money (Bancolombia, Banco de Bogota and others). The exchange rate is better at ATM's than exchanging cash.

Death, destruction, and evacuations have been reported. Flooding hit rural areas in Colombia and Peru on Sunday, driving hundreds from their homes, flooding crops and taking at least three lives in the Boyaca province. In the Colombian town of La Parada, southwest of the capital Bogota, the Tachira River overflowed its banks and flooded some 200 homes. Water levels stood nearly five feet deep in homes and streets in La Parada, where hundreds of residents lost nearly all their belongings. Jose Manrique is a member of the local civil defense crew. [Jose Manrique, Civil Defense Member]: "Because of the winter weather, the river overflowed its banks above a farm and affected the entire area of La Parada." As waters receded, people tried to round up belongings and clean up the streets. Meanwhile in Tunga, north and east of Bogota, Red Cross volunteers and other local rescue workers evacuated residents in boats. Local news outlets were reporting three dead, four missing, and 15000 people affected by flooding in the Boyaca province. In Peru's Amazon, crops and homes were underwater as the Amazon River and some tributaries flooded.

Founded by a Jesuit priest, the Fundacion Social is now the umbrella organization of a group of banks and insurance companies with three and a half million customers in the lowest income class. US Government Lets Bank Off The Hook Wachovia Bank reached a $160 million settlement with the Justice Department over allegations that a failure in bank controls enabled drug traffickers to launder drug money by transferring money from Mexican currency-exchange houses to the bank. Under a deferred-prosecution agreement with federal prosecutors in Miami, Wachovia, which is owned by Wells Fargo & Co., "admitted failure to identify, detect, and report suspicious transactions in third-party payment processor accounts," according to the Justice Department. Prosecutors said the bank processed $420 billion in transactions without using proper money-laundering detection. In a statement, Wachovia said it "has made significant enhancements to its [anti-money laundering] and [Bank Secrecy Act] compliance program that have strengthened its ability to guard against unlawful use of its system by wrongdoers." The Sinú River in northern Colombia has supported a diverse community of indigenous people for generations. The Zenu and Embera people who live by its banks depend on the river for fish, irrigation and drinking water. But in 2000, the Urrá Dam, built by a consortium of Colombian, Swedish and Russian companies, submerged over 7400 hectares of land, crops, homes and sacred sites. The dam displaced 2800 people and continues to threaten the lives of 70000 by altering vital food supplies. Areas of severe periodic flooding and drought caused by its flow have stymied traditional farming practices. Compounding this reality is the construction of a new dam—many times the size—by the Colombian government, presenting a constant looming threat over this beleaguered rural community. Enabling survival in a changed landscape. In response to the radical changes brought about by the dam, a local NGO—Association for Community Development of the Cienaga Grande (ASPROCIG)—is working to restore the ecology and agricultural productivity of the region by helping farmers along the Sinú develop agriculture and aquaculture farms suitable to the changed environment. With AJWS's support this year, ASPROCIG-supported farmers will establish 100 new farming systems.

This is Part 2 of my tour of "El Pobaldo" in Medellin Colombia. I start this section at Panamericana which sells electronics, books, computers and various other things, then continue to Oviedo Shopping Center showing the Havana Casino and the McDonalds next door. I added various photos of flowers, rivers and plants from "Parque Lineal la Presidenta". This park is located farther along the walk that I am taking, however, I thought it would look nice to mix in some photos of the vegetation and plant life that can be seen all over Medellin. The locals call this area of Avenue Poblado "The Golden Mile" since it is the most upscale area of Medellin with all the big shopping centers, banks, stock brokers, office buildings, casinos, etc. The photos were taken November the 1st 2009. I plan to make several other short videos in the next months showing the progress being developed in Medellin as well as other parts of Colombia.
