On the eve of China's biggest motor show, the world's top car market is expecting strong industry and consumer interest. Overall Chinese auto demand is seen growing about 5% this year after a near flat 2011, when the economy slowed from a breakneck pace. Auto China 2012 is a chance for the world's carmakers and suppliers to make inroads with new models, and Nissan EVP Andy Palmer says the company has high expectations. "Obviously, the Chinese market is the fastest growing market in the world. It's already become Nissan's biggest global market, and Infiniti's second-biggest market, so it's an incredibly important show for us," Palmer said. "We're preparing the Infiniti stand, getting everything ready the day before the show. We have very important announcements, the first and foremost the long-wheel based M, which is also with a hybrid. This is a vehicle that's been designed and engineered especially for the Chinese market. It's also the Asian premiere of the Infiniti Emerge, so two very important products - one for today, one for tomorrow." China has an estimated 30 million cars on the road in a nation of 1.4 billion people, prompting substantial hikes in investment and production by automakers. Analysts say up to 80% of car purchases in China are by first-time buyers, but increasingly lifestyle-oriented vehicles are finding greater market traction and the Beijing show is expected to reflect that. A growing middle class in China has increased the demand for cars in the world's most populous country. China has several home-grown automakers, but most lack the quality or safety records of more established foreign brands. In an effort to leapfrog the competition, Geely, one of China's largest carmakers, has bought a majority share in the Swedish car firm Volvo for what analysts say is the bargain price of just under $2bn. Interestingly, some car manufacturers, namely luxury marques such as Audi, are producing market-specific models for sale only in China, whereas ultra-luxury or performance marques like Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Aston Martin enjoy record-breaking sales there, despite the recession. And quite amazingly, national car production levels in China exceed that of all European output combined. The automotive populace increases in size by 38000 cars every day, having attained a current figure of 85 million now, compared to just 1 million about 35 years ago. The laws changed in the early 1990s to accommodate large-scale, affordable car ownership. However, they discover that there is not much to offer, even now, that seems a match for potential European competitors. In fact, some of the better cars available from the Chinese market are oddly-named, facsimiles of popular car designs such as the BMW X5, the Mini, and the Toyota Aygo. The Stig's Chinese cousin, who apparently enjoys randomly attacking people more than driving, takes two of the more modern offerings, including the equivalent of the forthcoming MG5, around a track for a spin. People safety in a crash situation. Here's More. The Chinese Chery J11(two) has a sweet sounding name, but it's turned out to be a lemon in the face of ANCAP crash tests. [Michael Case, Manager, RACV Vehicle Engineering]: "The results are in a one to five star scale, and the more stars the better." The Chery J11 was recently crash tested, and scored only two out of five stars for frontal impact..According to the ANCAP report there was a high risk of life-threatening chest injuries for the driver and the J11 scored zero points for pedestrian protection. To be sold in Australia a vehicle has to meet Australian Design Rule requirements, which are at a basic level. [Michael Case, Manager, RACV Vehicle Engineering]: "The Chinese vehicles that we've been testing have generally scored around two or three stars, and that's disappointing when most other competitor vehicles score at least four if not five stars in crash tests." 64km/h car crash test in moscow. As can be seen, the car has no structural integrity whatsoever. I have seen pictures of this car published by the Moscow automotive press. I am not a Russian, but I have access to many information from the automotive presses. Anyway, pictures reveal that this car does NOT have a frame rail underneath the car, or on the chassis. As a weekend race-car builder, I would imagine that having two rails that run from the rear bumper to the front bumper, as an integral structure of the car, would improve the car's safety significantly. It would also improve handling.
