The ship, believed to have sunk more than 400 years ago, is the first vessel ever discovered from China's late Ming Dynasty. Chinese archaeologists retrieved more than 2000 pieces of Ming Dynasty ceramics on Sunday from a sunken vessel in the South China Sea. The porcelain wares were recovered from the Nan'ao One, a Ming Dynasty merchant ship believed to have sunk off the coast of Shantou City in Guangdong Province more than 400 years ago. It was accidentally discovered near Nan'ao Island by a group of fishermen in 2007. The ship is the first vessel ever discovered from China's late Ming Dynasty, which ran from 1368 to 1664. The initial excavation of the ship began in 2009, and over 2700 relics have been recovered from the ship this year, according to Chinese state media. Most of the submerged relics are things like plates, tins and bowls. Researchers believe the ship was traveling to Southeast Asia when it sank in the Sandianjin waters. The salvage effort is expected to last until July. Of nearly three million sunken ships in oceans around the world, more than 2000 are believed to be in the South China Sea. | | Ancient Village Ruins Discovered in China Duration : 98 Seconds For more news visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ facebook.com Chinese archaeologists have recently uncovered an ancient village in southwest China. It's the first discovery of a full-scale site that has the ruins of buildings and relics from ancient Yunnan culture. Experts believe the village dates back forty-five hundred years—two millennia before Confucius. Researchers in southwestern China have discovered ruins of a large village that dates back four-and-a-half thousand years. The ancient village—located in Chengjiang County, Yunnan province—was first discovered in 2009. The initial stage of excavations started last November. [Jiang Zhilong, Yunnan Archaeology Research Institution]: "In the past, our understanding of Yunnan culture was based on materials from graves. So this excavation fills in a gap in the field of discovering village relics from ancient Yunnan culture." Where buildings once stood, archaeologists found household items made of pottery, bronze, stone, and copper. From the scorched marks on the walls of kiln-like structures, researchers believe the village could have been a copperware workshop. [Jiang Zhilong, Yunnan Archaeology Research Institution]: "From these excavated relics, we can make an initial estimate that that their age dates back to around 2500 BC, earlier than what we had previously found from Yunnan culture." The site occupies two-and-a-half acres and contains building ruins of 20 houses. The ... | | Archeologists unearth 3000 ancient Buddhas in China believed to date back 1500 years Duration : 53 Seconds "Breaking News" Archeologists unearth 3000 ancient Buddhas in China believed to date back 1500 years Archaeologists digging in Handan, China have unearthed nearly 3000 ancient statues of Buddha. Researchers in January salvaged artifacts believed to be up to 1500 years old during an excavation outside of Ye, the ancient capital of the Eastern Wei and Northern Qi dynasties. The discovery is believed to be the largest of its kind since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. An archaeologist with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences told reporters in March the Buddha statues could date back to the Eastern Wei and Northern Qi dynasties (AD 534 to 577). Others feature Buddha with a 'knowing smile', while broken full-length statues show the spiritual teacher wearing a monk-like robe. Experts believe the statues may have been collected and ritualistically buried after the fall of the Northern Qi dynasty in attempt by later emperors in an attempt to purge the country of Buddhism. Katherine Tsiang, director of the Center for the Art of East Asia at the University of Chicago, told National Geographic Daily: 'It may have been that some of the ruins and broken sculptures from the past were gathered from old temple sites and buried in a pit.' Others, Ms Tsiang said, appeared to be 'respectfully buried in an orderly way', suggesting burials were done by Buddhists in times of danger. The statues range from approximately eight inches long to several feet high. "Ancient ... | | Red Deer Cave Man Discovered in China May Be New Human Duration : 64 Seconds It may be that Fred and Wilma had more than just the Rubbles as neighbors. A previously unknown type of human may have been identified in southern China, who researchers say existed alongside modern man as recently as 11, 500 years ago. The Red Deer Cave people's bones, which suggest a very different appearance than modern man, were discovered in the Yunnan Province in 1989, but haven't been studied until now. Some reviewing the findings even believe that these early people never really interbred with others and are unique among the members of the human evolutionary tree. The biggest problem in identifying the Red Deer Cave man as a new human is that there isn't a satisfactory definition of just what a modern human is. Skeptics are already questioning the findings but the proof will be in the primordial pudding; researchers say some the world's best DNA extraction labs are working to get some ancient evidence of the brand new man.
