SAVE OUR PLANET... Salmon farms leave waters tainted and devoid of life. A recent study by German researchers from the renowned Max Planck Institute's Dynamics and Organization Department found that salmon farming presents creates environmental disaster, worse even than previously understood. The team had been navigating waters off the coast of Chile to study communication among whales when they came across a series of oceanic salmon farms. Analysis of water samples in the region found them to be shockingly empty of life. Team leader Dr. Heike Vester also observed that they were clouded by fish feces and uneaten food, and emitted a sharp odor of chlorine. Moreover, nets surrounding the farms were trapping and strangling sea lions and other marine life, while acoustic measurements revealed that engine noise from supply vessels and other machinery used to feed the salmon was interfering with the communication systems of whales and porpoises. Salmones Cupquelan SA is a salmon and trout farming company based in the Cupquelan Fjord in southern Chile. It is owned by Cooke Aquaculutre, a family-owned independent aquaculture company based in Atlantic Canada. The fjord provides a pristine and isolated environment that is surrounded by glaciers and rainforests - a perfect location for top quality production and the implementation of sustainable farming methods. OUR CUPQUELAN SALMON Salmones Cupquelan is the sole operator in the isolated Cupquelan Fjord. This unique environment contributes to enhanced bio-security and excellent fish welfare. The Cupquelan Fjord is 40 km long and the nearest neighbouring farming operation is 75 km away, well outside the fjord. At the head of the fjord, two glacial rivers run down and flow from cliffs into the fjord basin's waters. This fresh water inflow reduces the salinity in the fjord and creates an excellent environment for salmon and trout to grow. The low salinity also inhibits the propagation of sea lice, adding to the quality of the water and fish welfare.

Don Staniford, founder of "Global Alliance Against Industrial Aquaculture" has been sued by Norwegian fish farm Company "Cermaq" for stating that fish farms spread disease such as "ISA" which can be lethal to salmon. This despite Cermaq's own research showning that fish farms spread "Infectious Salmon Anemia" to Chile where the disease decimated Chile"s salmon farm stocks. Here in BC we would have even more to lose if ISA was to be introduced into our wild pacific salmon stocks via fish farms. Some evidence indicates that "ISA" may already be here.
