Cambodia Travel Doc Part 01
Duration : 322 Seconds

The Kingdom of Cambodia (formerly known as Kampuchea) is a country in South East Asia with a population of over 14 million people. The kingdom's capital and largest city is Phnom Penh. Cambodia is the successor state of the once powerful Hindu and Buddhist Khmer Empire, which ruled most of the Indochinese Peninsula between the eleventh and fourteenth centuries. A citizen of Cambodia is usually identified as "Cambodian" or "Khmer," though the latter strictly refers to ethnic Khmers. Most Cambodians are Theravada Buddhists of Khmer extraction, but the country also has a substantial number of predominantly Muslim Cham, as well as ethnic Chinese, Vietnamese and small animist hill tribes. The country borders Thailand to its west and northwest, Laos to its northeast, and Vietnam to its east and southeast. In the south it faces the Gulf of Thailand. The geography of Cambodia is dominated by the Mekong river (colloquial Khmer: Tonle Thom or "the great river") and the Tonlé Sap ("the fresh water lake"), an important source of fish. Its culture is heavily influenced by Thailand and Laos. Keywords:bbtv broadbandtv powerdocs destinations, cambodia, asia, vacation, history, travel, tourist, tourism, adventure, landmark, culture

Cambodia by Titan Travel
Duration : 185 Seconds

From its vast expanse of water-based agricultural lands overlooked by the awesome Hoang Lien mountains in the north, to the sinuous coast-hugging length of the country as its scimitar shape cuts through the South China Seas into the Gulf of Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia are defined by rivers, ponds and a life lived on and with water - literally the lifeblood of these countries. At the same time, the Central Highlands dividing the two great deltas of the Red River and the tropical south's Mekong make for dramatic differences. 'Contrast' is an often over-used word in travel descriptions but it certainly applies when comparing Hanoi and its mix of stately French colonial buildings, pagodas and Asian architecture, Ho Chi Minh City, known as the Paris of the East and the Khmer's greatest monument at Angkor, Cambodia. For Southeast Asia Travel Advice, visit www.southeastasiatraveladvice.com The monsoon season is in full swing in Southeast Asia. September 10th the Siem Reap River, which flows through Siem Reap and next to the Old Market area, spilled out of its banks. By September 11, hotels had sandbagged their doors and most of the Old Market was empty due to flooding. Tourists headed to Angkor Wat will have to roll up their pants legs. Tap water has likely been exposed, so it is critically important travelers take water precautions like not using tap water to brush their teeth and avoiding uncooked vegetables. See our Twitter at http for up-to-date information about the flooding situation and other Southeast Asia news.
