Pig Business -- Bulgarian Subtitles
Duration : 3499 Seconds

Pig Business investigates the rise of factory pig farming, a system which abuses animals, pollutes the environment, threatens human health through dangerous overuse of antibiotics, and wrecks rural economies and communities. The film shows how this system which was developed in the USA is now being used in eastern Europe from where the pork, often produced below legal animal welfare standards, is exported to other EU countries putting local farmers out of business. The message is simple; the future is our choice.

Brutal Reform
Duration : 144 Seconds

This propaganda Newsreel presents the collectivisation of the Bulgarian countryside almost as a joyful process. In reality it was brutal and methodically planned. Once the Agrarian leader Nikola Petkov was removed from political life and executed, in 1947 the Communist regime moved swiftly to the countryside. Agriculture was collectivised and peasant rebellions crushed. The Collective farms were created, the TKZS (ТКЗС). Episode from Atanas Kiryakov's "The Camps", 1990

Tobacco cultivation (Cigarette - Zigarette - Tabak)
Duration : 145 Seconds

Tobacco cultivation in southern Bulgaria...

Fiamma's Kitchen on BTV (Bulgarian Television, Channel 2), 8 o'clock news, 17 July 2008. The first organic-biodynamic company in Bulgaria producing fresh vegetables and jars. Interview to Dragomir Matein. Text of the interview: Journalist: In Bulgaria, finally, we have the first production of organic grapes and vegetables. The first production ever of organic fruits and vegetables will be released near the village of Izvorovo, near Harmanlii. On this experimental field we meet Dragomir Matein, where he's growing hundrep percent organic tomatoes, peppers and aubergines. There is no use of chemicals, fertilizers and herbicides. Illnesses are cured by natural remedies. Dragomir: Biodynamic principles are applied and one uses nettle, camomile and/or dandelion teas. This is the way we help our plants. Journalist: The cost of production of peppers is very high compared to the standard ones. Despite that, there is a market for such products. Drago: You will not find our product on the market, as they are niche products. Journalist: the typical buyers for this kind of product are top restaurants in Sofia. The cost of organic table grapes could reach the price of 7 leva per Kilo in such establishments. 7 leva per decare [35 euros per hectare] is the subsidy that organic producers receive , which is obviouly not enough. Drago: 7 leva is not enough. For instance, if you go to Sofia airport, with that money you would have coffee and a coke, and that is ridiculous. The government ...
