The Karakachani, is a Greek minority ethnic group who chose Bulgaria for their home, they gather annually to celebrate their traditional culture and share it to Bulgarian people and all visitors to their festival. by www.impactpressgroup.org The Karakachani are an ethnic Greek minority group of shepherds inhabiting Greece and neighbouring countries. Historically centered around the Pindus, mountains, Greece they have been currently urbanised to a significant degree. Karakachani - also known as Sarakatsani - are a people living in northern Greece, Albania, Macedonia and Bulgaria, traditionally leading a semi-sedentary life connected to herding. They have their own language, which is built on a Greek basis with many Slavic and other loanwords.The Karakachani are eastern Orthodox as they have their own customs of the people which has not any analog around the world.The anthropological characteristics of the Karakachani classify them as one of the earliest populations on the Balkans and Europe. About 4000 people registered them as Karakachani in Bulgaria, as most of them residing around town of Sliven in south-eastern Bulgaria and in the Stara Planina mountains. Their festivals feature traditional Karakachani music and crafts.

The International Folklore Festival was created in 1965 and since then it has gained international prestige as a result of its high professionalism and the authenticity of the peoples' traditional wealth. In 1978 it was granted membership of The International Council of the Organizers of Folklore Festivals -- CIOFF; since 2001 it is a member of the International Festivals & Events Association Europe /IFEA/. Every year representatives of different continents meet at the sea shore to present the folk heritage they bear deep in themselves. Concerts in Bourgas and its region, a festive parade, a scientific conference, traditional souvenirs exhibition with bazaar, folk crafts workshop, photographing and videotaping of the festival activities are also included in the Programme of the International Folklore Festival. Bulgarian and foreign folk songs and dances ensembles, folk choirs and orchestras are eligible to apply for participation in the Festival. The number of the ensemble members and the persons accompanying them must not exceed 40 persons altogether. The participants should be of an age over 15. Recitals and participation in mixed performances of 5 and 45 minute duration should be included in each ensemble's programme. If the programme is performed by playback, the recording should be submitted as a studio CD, mini disc. It is recommended that the ensembles deliver their performances with live orchestras. The opening dance of ensemble Sredets at their 70 years anniversary on the 29th of april 2007 in the Bulgarian national opera! Folk Dance Ensemble Sredets was established in 1937. It is one of the oldest Bulgarian ensembles and one of the most popular in the country. Each ethnographic region is represented in the repertoire of the folk dance ensemble Sredets -- the rhythms of Bulgaria can be heard and felt in it. Many dance forms are included in the concert programme of the group, keeping the great interest of the public. The traditional choreography and the inspired performances of Sredets have brought lots of people to the concert halls thousands and thousands of times. The great number of participation in international folk festivals and forums has brought the ensemble the highest appreciation of the specialists and the public not only in Bulgaria but also in many foreign countries. Here are some of the most valuable international awards and prizes: - 'Golden necklace' Dijon, France in 1964. OM Art Formation - The first Bulgarian ethno-jazz group "OM" has been founded in 1991 by Nikolai Ivanov - musician, composer, multi instrumentalist, artist.The purpose is the creation of cross culture synthetic and plastic music, which is aiming to associate elements from the ethnic music, ambient, jazz, new- age, and minimalism. With "OM" Nikolai Ivanov realizes in musical form his philosophy for synthesis of the East and the West and global "ethnologization" of art today. "OM" use instruments of the Balkan tradition - tambura, tarambuka, shepherd's pipe, dvoianka, drum, bag pipe; from the East - sitar, ghatam, tabla, bamboo flutes, saz, def, tar, guttural singing etc. mixing them with guitar, piano, electric double - bass, electronic instruments and computer programming. "OM" has played at all Bulgarian festivals. They have given concerts in most European countries and the Far East (India, China, Nepal). In 1995, together with three Bulgarian musicians, "OM" realizes the highest concert in the world (Kalapatar, 5345m. high, below Everest) registered in Guiness.
