Young budding journalists from Leaders in Community (LiC) went to visit an exhibition on Islamic history at the Brunei Gallery (University of SOAS). The exhibition displays a rare glimpse of powerfully evocative books from the holdings of the most prestigious and specialised of private libraries on the East-West Interface: Travel, Science, Art, and Literature, from the age of printing; plus manuscript highlights from the last millennium. An exhibition which respects and celebrates the centuries-old relationship between the West and the Arab and Islamic world as it survives in magnificent books, engravings, manuscripts and documents, and will be the 100th exhibition to be presented by the Brunei Gallery, SOAS. The book has provided descriptions on constitution writing in the world and its utility in Nepalese context. While releasing the book, Prof. Dr. Govinda Raj Bhattarai said Tigela, who had contributed much to bring out war literature to public, has come up with this literary piece contemplating on the contemporary politics. Who are the Gurkha? The Gurkha are the fame Unit in the British and the Indian armed forces. Gurkha are also serving in the Singapore and Brunei forces. The Gurkha are formed by Indo-Mongoloid men from Nepal namely from Magar, Gurung, Rai and Limbu communities. Neolithic tools found in the Kathmandu Valley indicate that people have been living in the Himalayan region for at least 9000 years. The foremost settlers in this region was the Indo-Mongoloid people who are termed as "Kiratas" in Veda and other ancient literature. In Sanskrit, Kirata means native of the land with "kiram atati bhramati yah" or one wandering over the forests. Kiratas are first mentioned in the Yajurveda (Shukla XXX.16; Krisha III.4,12,1), and in the Atharvaveda (X.4,14), describing them as "mountain people and hunters in the forests and deadly warriors." In Manu's Dharmashastra (X.44) they are mentioned as degraded Kshatriyas, which meant that they were considered to be of advanced civilization, but outside the ambit of Brahminical influence. Kiratas are also mentioned in ancient Greek history, Chinese history and Holy book of Sikh Guru Nanak. The Greeks had known the Kirats by the name of Kirhadai. The last remnant of the ancient Kiratite or Cherethite tribe was found recorded in the book of 2 Samuel, 15 - 18. They were a martial tribe during the reign of the Syrian King David in 1049 BC. Raphael Lemkin born on June 24, 1900 was a Polish lawyer of Jewish descent. Before World War II, Lemkin studied the Armenian Genocide in depth and campaigned in the League of Nations to ban what he called "barbarity" and "vandalism". He is best known for his work against genocide, a word he coined in 1943 from the root words genos (Greek for family, tribe or race) and -cide (Latin for killing). He first used the word in print in Axis Rule in Occupied Europe: Laws of Occupation - Analysis of Government - Proposals for Redress (1944). Lemkin was born Rafał Lemkin in the village of Bezwodne in Imperial Russia, now the Vawkavysk district of Belarus. Not much is known of Lemkin's early life. He grew up in a Jewish family and was one of three children born to Joseph and Bella (Pomerantz) Lemkin. His father was a farmer and his mother a highly intellectual woman who was a painter, linguist, and philosophy student with a large collection of books on literature and history.
