This is the finale episode for season 1. 'Intruder', Episode 10. This video was requested by Alliance Francaise Brunei to promote the French Film Festivals 2012 in Brunei which was on the 7th til the 13th April. PS / Towards the end, the audio may be bad if you watch the video through some sound systems. That's because, when we shot this, we were testing the Magic Lantern for the Canon 60D and tried using the manual audio controls. Not getting used to it, we weren't maintaing on the audio whilst shooting. Lesson learn. Always monitor the audio levels.

The Borneo Hornbill Festival is an event showcase with the objective of promoting the traditional Borneo Arts and Culture to all Malaysian and Tourist from all over the world. Borneo, knowingly as the third (3rd) largest island in the world, is consisting of East Malaysia Sabah and Sarawak, Brunei and Kalimantan. Borneo with its beautiful scenery attracts more than a thousand tourists each year. With its green & clean nature, Borneo became the most unique place for tourists to spend their holidays. The traditional arts and culture is really maintained and preserve by the locals as this will benefits them when tourists visited their places in terms of tremendous growth of tourism industry. The Borneo Hornbill Festival will officially begin on Thursday, for the preliminary round of Ethnic Costume Show; follow by Ethnic Dance Show on the following day. The entire Saturday and Sunday will end with a Grand Final for both categories. There will be booths set up around the venue and short presentations and workshops scheduled throughout the day. The origins of this song are hotly disputed, and no doubt there will be many claims and counter-claims in the comments section below. In any case it is well known in all parts of the Malay peninsula, Brunei, Southern Thailand and, apparently, the Philippines. Malays say that they have been singing the song for five hundred years, especially in festivals such as the Paddy Harvesting Festival. Some claim it originated in Malacca as a song to promote unity among people, Malacca being a global meeting place at the time. But when the Malaysian Tourism Board used the song in a commercial to promote Malaysian tourism, a controversy broke out, with Indonesians accusing Malaysia of heritage theft and breaking Indonesian copyright laws which apparently consider folklore as intellectual property owned and controlled by the state. Malaysia argued that it is not just an Indonesian song. but belongs to Malaysians and Indonesians alike. Singapore has also laid claim to the song, particularly in Dick Lee's rap version, which has verses promoting the island state. Apologies to those who requested the Malaysian version, but I believe the way I do this song is the Indonesian version. GONG (Idiofon) Gongs form the backbone of most musical ensembles and are used for nearly every social event. The number of instruments played together varies from community to community. During a gong beating session, one or two drums are also played to accentuate the main rhythms. The gongs are found in all parts of the state and are highly valued. They are also used as bridewealth, for animistic religious ceremonies, signaling and during harvest festivals. Gongs are also recently made locally in Kudat by Rungus people. These have a shallow rim and small boss. Such gongs are made from galvanized iron sheets which are also purchased locally. The more popular gong with its thick walls, deep rim and large boss, is imported from the Philippines, Indonesia or Brunei. (www.sabah.org.my)

A July 20, 2011 press release by the Department of Foreign Affiars Cebu City was declared as an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) City of Culture in lavish ceremonies held on July 15 at various areas around the city. The ceremonies kicked off at the newly opened Radisson Blu Hotel, where dancers from various Cebu universities, dressed in traditional attires of ASEAN Member-States, entered the hotel's Sta. Maria Ballroom carrying the flags of the 10 ASEAN members, amidst the ecstatic beat of gongs and music. Present during the events were the DFA Office of ASEAN Affairs Executive Director Olivia Palala and Director Edsel Barba, the Ambassadors of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam to the Philippines, representatives from ASEAN dialogue partners China and Japan, and representatives from the Cebu government. Among the dignitaries present were Senator Vicente Sotto III, Cebu Representative Rachelle Marguerite del Mar, National Commission of Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Chairperson Felipe de Leon and former ambassador Francisco Benedicto.
