Vinicius de Moraes is probably the greatest Brazilian poet and musician of all times. I have grown up listening to him, his songs are deep and calming. He was the link between the old guard of poets and the new generation song writers and singers. While he was a friend of great poets like Manuel Bandeira, he was also a friend/partner of new singers (at that time) like the great Toquinho.

Here in Brazil at the present time it seems fitting to do a Brazil poem. You may find it surreal or very romantic according to your taste . It was from one of the beaches in Bahia. I´m quite certain there must be, among those who never an education, grown men here (not fishermen) who turn to each other and ask what happens to the Sun when it goes down into the sea. Sorry by the way about the lack of finesse in the editing! Best I can do with the means available. SEA-SERPENT The Atlantic smoothes her shot-silk coverlet, invites the early-retiring, over-sated Sun to sink within and dream the morrow, but the once-deserted beach of platinum sand, lofty cocoanuts and spent rock honeycomb has filled with a multitude of charcoal forms. A team of slow-heaving, local fishermen gleaming from the waist like burnished ebony, are imposing their silent husbandry upon the pristine and painted sands of Paradise. Close at their heels battalions of small kids ape their serenity with ill-concealed excitement: there will be explosions of exuberant abandon. But first the host of spoon-shaped fish, some as large as earth-bananas and the mass of seaweed pocked with clams, are all closely scrutinized. A solemn minute for the catch to suffocate and two dozen pairs of swift, dark hands rain silver manna into salt-encrusted baskets. One of the smallest boys is screaming fit to bust. In a naked frenzy he charges back and forth along the waters´ edge a sea-snake in his fist. No greater than his puny ...

O lançamento do livro aconteceu no Supermarket Art Bar, Augusta Avenue, em Toronto, e teve os cônsules gerais da Índia e Brasil, respectivamente a Sra. Preeti Saran e Embaixador Afonso Cardoso. Os dois países compartilham um passado de colonialismo Português e agora como potência dos países do terceiro mundo em ascensão, como parte do grupo BRIC. Editor Jasmine D'Costa and writer Leopoldo Varadela infused Brazilians and Indians to release two books; Indian Voices by various writers, and Hearts & Souls by Leopoldo Paradela. The book launch happened at Supermarket, Augusta Avenue, in Toronto, and had the general consuls of India and Brazil, respectively Ms. Preeti Saran and Embaixador Afonso Cardoso. The two countries shared a past of Portuguese colonialism and now as the powerhouse of the emerging countries, as part of the BRIC block.
