Rio de Janeiro, Brazil -- Renowned Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer marks his 104 birthday on Thursday. "I'm just an ordinary guy. I'm not that special. I don't know why I've lasted for so long!" To celebrate its 104th birthday, Niemeyer will publish the eleventh edition of its magazine Nosso Caminho, in which event launch, meet friends and family of the architect alone. "I"m trying to adapt, I'm trying to think as if I was younger. That makes a difference. I have the same interests in life today as when I was young. You don't have to accept growing old. Think like you're 40 years old and you'll act like you are." Said Niemeyer. The magazine will feature images of the designs for the headquarters of the American University (UNIL).

(born December 15, 1907) is a Brazilian architect who is considered one of the most important names in international modern architecture. He was a pioneer in the exploration of the constructive possibilities of reinforced concrete. His buildings are often characterised by being spacious and exposed, mixing volumes and empty space to create unconventional patterns and often propped up by pilotis. Both lauded and criticised for being a "sculptor of monuments"[1], his most famous design, the plan for the city of Brasilia, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Oscar Niemeyer and his contribution to the construction of Brasília is portrayed and somewhat parodied in the 1964 French movie L'homme de Rio (The Man From Rio), starring Jean-Paul Belmondo. This curved residential unit in Rio was designed by Affonso Eduardo Reidy (1909-1964) from 1947 onward and completed in the early 1950ies. In Central do Brasil (1998), dir. Walter Salles, it is, as is usual with modern architecture, the residence of some evil characters who trade in small children. The main character sells a boy there whose mother was run over by a bus. Taken by remorse she returns there to kidnap hin - so to speak (without returning the money which she has invested in a TV set). Edited to the Andante grazioso of the Quintet in E-Flat Major, Op. 88 No 2 by Anton Reicha.
