Inour farm, three hours driving from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, we have a project of organic tomatoes in a greenhouse and also Vetiver plants. Vetiver (www.vetiver.com.br) is an amazing plant from India that can be applied in many different things such as slope stabilization against mudslide, water purification, essence oil and parfums production, handcraft, etc . Both projects, Organic Tomatoes and Vetiver are social and scientific here. That means, we try to improve them, get knowledge and help other people. Whenever we get positive results we try to spread them to the communities around that practice traditional agriculture and suffer a lot with this. To help on those projects we accept friendly people from all over the world that can come and stay in the farm for free. We provide simple and basic food and lodge. People can also have their own vegetable garden. In exchange these young people help working in the farm projects. The nature here is amazing. We have a lot of land, forests, mineral water sources, a big lake, ducks, chickens, cows, gooses and many birds around. Local people living here are great. They are very wise and will teach you many things about life, portuguese language and Nature. Take a look in these videos and enjoy people talking about their experience here, nature and landscape. A 10 minute compressed cut of a film by Nathan Gulick on the installation of a new work by Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto. The work, entitled MOTHER BODY EMOTIONAL DENSITIES, FOR ALIVE TEMPLE TIME BABY SON, was on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego - the inaugural show at the new downtown location. The film tracks the progression of the installation (of one of his largest works to date) and is intercut with dual interviews that give insight into his working methods and thought process.

Each week thousands of live cattle undertake a three week journey from the Amazon port of Belem in Brazil to Beirut in Lebanon. Cattle are crammed into trucks in the burning Amazon heat. For four days they will be unable to move or lay down and will receive no food or water. Those that fall are trapped and injured. At the ship, the use of electric prods for loading further distresses the weakened cattle. Crushed against unfamiliar animals, the cattle can injure each other in their agitation. Heat stroke, trauma and respiratory disease will all be killers on the seventeen day voyage. On arrival in Lebanon, cattle are often slaughtered in inhumane ways that violate religious requirements. After weeks of needless animal suffering the consumer is misled into believing the meat is Halal. Humane slaughter close to home, would not only end the cruelty, it would create jobs in Brazil.

Scholars and fishermen had a surprise during an experience on the northern shore of Bahia (1). Looks like a prehistoric animal... looks like silicon... it has only fat on ... this one you cannot eat!. And you really cant, Its a fish with a weird flesh, doesnt have skin or scales, from the head to the tip of the tail is formed by a mass that looks more like gelatin, It was captured during a research trip of the TAMAR Project (2), the technicians were testing circular hooks which wouldnt incur the risk of killing sea turtles, suddenly the animal was hooked. When I saw that completely different creature I was spooked, and I dove into the water... I felt ill. These are the images recorded by Guy Marcovaldi when the fish approached the surface already barely alive, it was 1000 meters deep at 15km from Praia do Forte North littoral of Bahia.Researchers believe that the Brazilian coast have at least 150 species of unknown fishes the most recent discoveries were of small animals, this is the first time on something at this size.It weights around 40 kilos and its about the size of a tall man.1,83m.Small eyes, large mouth and barely visible teeth, the oceanographer Claudio Sampaio confirms that there are no records of this fish on any scientific publication.To find such a completely new creature like this, for science its a rare jewel, a fish that has never been seen before by the human race.The fish will be preserved in formaldehyde and shall become part of the collection of the ...

Every week, hundreds of millions of farm animals endure journeys, sometimes lasting days, weeks or months, in cramped conditions on their way to slaughter. They experience stress and exhaustion, rough handling, hunger and thirst, extreme temperatures and unsanitary conditions as they are transported live across the world. As a result, the animals suffer horrific injuries, diseases are spread and many die before reaching their destination. We already have the technology to transport fresh chilled and frozen meat, and the science to prove the welfare benefits of local, humane slaughter. For these reasons, long distance transport is not only cruel, it is unnecessary.
