At the end of the "World's Most Dangerous Road" bikers going down with Gravity Assisted Mountain Biking and interested tourists can visit this animal refuge. There are close to 100 animals, including monkeys, parrots, coati, tortoise and even an Andean Bear. With proper guiding you can get into personal contact with almost all these animals. This year, the Bolivian region of El Chaco has faced its driest summer in 20 years. The prolonged drought has caused a water shortage that is affecting poor people and animals throughout the region. Bringing aid to animals in the most affected parts of El Chaco, WSPA is funding an operation that will provide water to small livestock holders -- who rely on the animals for income -- twice a day, for two months. An estimated total of 9000 animals will benefit from this help.

In an historic world first, Animal Defenders International has rescued an incredible 24 lions from eight circuses in Bolivia Accompanied by the Bolivian authorities, the ADI team travelled all over Bolivia seizing lions and other animals from shocking conditions in circuses. Malnourished, thin and dehydrated lions were found in tiny cages on wheels. One circus had a staggering eight lions in a small cage, little bigger than two double beds, on the back of a truck. These twenty four lions have come a long way from their old life in the circus: they are now being nursed back to health in an ADI compound in Santa Cruz on land donated by the city Mayor. The animals are being prepared for 'Operation Lion Ark', a record-breaking airlift to a wildlife sanctuary in the USA, where they will live out the rest of their days in safety and comfort. Bolivian soldiers state that the US Army taught them war preparation exercises in which stray dogs were kidnapped, restrained, stabbed, and killed. Thanks to pressure from PETA, the Bolivian military has ended training exercises on animals, but many governments, including the US, have not.
