THE EKEKO LEYEND - Fiesta de las Alasitas in La Paz, Bolivia: Festival of the Aymará God Ekeko, Bolivia's God of Abundance .- La Fiesta de las Alasitas is Bolivia's festival of small wishes, yearly held in different towns at different times. The largest fair is held yearly in the capital of La Paz, on January 24, when Bolivians buy miniatures representing the material goods they aspire to own and offer them to Ekeko, the God of Abundance. The History of the Festival of Alasitas in Bolivia There is not one conclusive theory about the origines of the Alasitas Festival. What is 'La Diablada'? It represents the denial of the imposed religion by the invaders. Spaniards thought of the devil (el Diablo) as the opposite force to their religion. Therefore, Indigenous cultures had to be in contraposition to this deity. The lithurgic drama is played out with the 'diablos' symbolizing centuries of cultural resistance to various invaders. The well-known musical group LLAJTAYMANTA peforms la Diablada which is danced by the KORY WAYNAS (Golden Youth) in Montreal, 2006.
