La Paz, Bolivia (NTN24) -- Famed Bolivian painter Roberto Mamani Mamani creates unique Andean shawls for colourful festival filled with dance and music. Prominent Bolivian artist Roberto Mamani Mamani added a splash of colour and life to an already vibrant La Paz festival. The celebrated artist painted ten unique shawls for Andean women of the San Pedro Young Fellowship of Achacachi Residents, better known simply as Los Catedraticos, participating in an annual religious festival known as the Great Power. Mamani Mamani's shawls are valued at $3000 dollars each and will be worn by members of the haughty Los Catedraticos in the festivals most revered dance, the Morenada at the event this June. In addition to the shawls he also designed musical elements, matracas, and other pieces for members of the Los Catedraticos fellowship, one of close to a hundred groups that will participate in the annual celebration. "This is the fourth year that I've worked with the most representative fellowship of the Great Power festival known as Los Catedraticos. It is a job and cultural alliance where as an artist, I am providing part of the design of the shawls, maracas and important elements for one of the most important dances which is the Morenada, which is the oldest Andean dance," Mamani Mamani told Reuters.
