Bhutan, Tibet - journeys featuring Jubeus -Sunshine Lady
Duration : 221 Seconds

Tigers Nest, Bhutan..... The Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet.... A Tibetin Home... Tigers Nest was a journey! We started at just over 8000 ft and climbed to 10000 ft. I did include some shots of me.... :-0... I'm not very photogenic..... My unusual outfits are due to dress requirements for entrance into the monasteries and the hot, humid climates.... The monasteries required almost total coverage, so I wore the tights on the hikes and carried the skirt and long sleeve shirts in my pack to change into. My contorted poses are due to balancing on the edge at times.....and in one I'm licking my severely chapped lips...which didn't show up on the small screen... :-) Oh well.... Yes, out of respect and courtesy, I did accept tea in several kitchens much like the one in the picture...... Unfortunately it was forbidden to take pictures in the monasteries. The music is from - Jubeus: Two Tone Circles - Sunshine Lady....a band my friend and I found in a bar, on the Outer Banks in North Carolina. The rest of the CD is just as awesome! Enjoy!

Wehave selected 100 unique places on Earth that are projected to undergo profound changes within the next few generations. We based our selection of the 100 places on the 4th Assessment Report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Simply by drawing attention to the beauty of these places, 100 Places to Remember Before they Disappear creates an argument to preserve them. The 100 Places we have chosen to highlight, and the people who live in them, are in serious danger because of rising sea levels, rising temperatures and extreme weather events triggered by climate change. Among ambassadors are Joss Stone, Desmund Tutu for more info visit www.100places.com. Land of the Thunder Dragon For the last 1200 years, Buddhism has been the dominant religion in the small kingdom of Bhutan, squeezed between Tibet and India on the southern slopes of the Himalayas. Bhutan covers some 38000 square kilometers (about the size of Switzerland) of rugged mountainside, deep valleys and snow-covered peaks. The locals call it Druk Yu, meaning Land of the Thunder Dragon. It is thought that its official name, Bhutan, derives from a Sanskrit term meaning At the end of Tibet. In the 17th century, fortress monasteries dzongs in Bhutanese - were built across the country to offer protection from Tibetan invaders. Many of these still survive as working monasteries but a few have been destroyed by fire, such as Sey Dzong, the ruins of which lie at the foot of the holy mountain of ...

Mahamudra: Song of Mahamudra by Tilopa; meditation instruction
Duration : 615 Seconds

Recited by Lama Kunga Choedak. Tilopa's Mahamudra Instruction to Naropa in twenty Eight Verses was transmitted by the Great Guru and Mahasiddha Tilopa to the Kashmiri Pandit, Sage and Siddha, Naropa, near the banks of the River Ganga upon the completion of his Twelve Austerities. Naropa transmitted the teaching in Sanskrit in the form of twenty eight verses to the great Tibetan translator Mar pa Chos kyi blos gros, who made a free translation of it at his village of Pulahari on the Tibet - Bhutan border. This text is contained in the collection of Mahamudra instruction called the Do ha mdzod brgyad ces bya ba Phyag rgya chen po'i man ngag gsal bar ston pa'i gzhung, which is printed at the Gyalwa Karmapa's monastery at Rumtek, Sikkim. The Tibetan title is Phyag rgya chen po'i man ngag, or Phyag rgya chen po rdo rje'i tsig rkang nyi shu rtsa brgyad pa. Tilopa (Prakrit; Sanskrit: Talika or Tilopada) (988--1069) was born in either Chativavo (Chittagong), Bengal or Jagora, Bengal in India.[1] He was a tantric practitioner and mahasiddha. He developed the mahamudra (Tibetan: phyag rgya chen po) method, a set of spiritual practices that greatly accelerates the process of attaining bodhi (enlightenment). He is regarded as the human founder of the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.[2] Tilopa was born into the brahmin (priestly) caste[1] -- according to some sources, a royal family -- but he adopted the monastic life upon receiving orders from a dakini[2] (female buddha whose ...

Cham - Tewfic Elsawy
Duration : 232 Seconds

The Cham dances are held during the Tsechus, which are celebrated in each district of Bhutan on specific dates in the lunar Tibetan calendar, and are usually held in fall of each year. The highlight of the tsechus are the sacred dances, which involve costumed, masked performers and are moral vignettes, based on events from the life of Padmasambhava and other Buddhist saints. The performers are usually monks, but can also be laborers and farmers from the surrounding area. Tewfic El-Sawy is a freelance photographer based in New York City who specializes in documenting endangered cultures and traditional life ways of Asia, Latin America and Africa. His images, articles and photo features were published in various magazines, and my travel photographs were featured by some of the largest adventure travel companies in the United States and Great Britain, as well as in the art collections of multinational banks and corporations. He also teaches documentary travel photography, as well as multimedia. He organizes and leads photo expeditions and multimedia workshops for photographers who share his interest and enthusiasm for unusual cultures, uncommon locations and lesser known religious rituals and other festivals; mostly in South and South East Asia.

A Fishing Cat Fishing : Read Description
Duration : 135 Seconds

No Copyright Infringement Intended. ~ This Fishing Cat lives In captivity. The Fishing Cat is a medium-sized wild Cat of South and Southeast Asia. In 2008, the IUCN classified the fishing cat as endangered since they are concentrated primarily in wetland habitats, which are increasingly being settled, degraded and converted. Over the last decade, the fishing cat population throughout much of its Asian range declined severely. The range of fishing cats extends from eastern Pakistan through the Terai region of the Himalayan foothills in India and Nepal, into Bangladesh, and in Sri Lanka. The solitary living fishing cats are thought to be primarily nocturnal. They are very much at home in the water and can swim long distances, even under water. Females have been reported to range over areas of 4 to 6 km2 (1.5 to 2.3 sq mi), while males range over 16 to 22 km2 (6.2 to 8.5 sq mi). They hunt along the edges of watercourses, grabbing prey from the water, and sometimes diving in to catch prey further from the banks. Fishing cat are endangered due to their dependence on wetlands, which are increasingly being settled and converted for agricultural use, and also due to human over-exploitation of local fish stocks. It is believed to be extirpated in Afghanistan, it may already be gone from Malaysia and China, and it has become rare throughout its remaining distribution range. Prionailurus viverrinus is included on CITES Appendix II, and protected by national legislation over most of ...
