An interview with him during the inauguration of my Tribal Connection show (see other videos about it on my channel) in Kolkata in 1996. Mister Prakash is a famous painter in his own right. However, he was notorious for rants and actions against the West, including staging protests against the making of the film City of Joy, of which he boycotted the shooting on a daily basis with the help of his friends. However, he said this about my work and my show in this video. The tranlation comes from a Bengali friend Arnab Sengupta. I had to wait 15 years to finally hear what he had to say here. "This Exhibition being done in this gallery, claims to be a very different thing all by itself. The reason being, this exhibition is not that we usually have in our country abiding the general conventions. Here there has been some insanity represented from other physical locations... and the gentleman doing this exhibition Mr. Alann de vuyst.... thinks that the core of this activity is Tribal Spirit...centering which the paintings have been created... though I dont want to get into discussing as to how much or less he is informed about the tribal spirit in our country ..but I am saying this.... Conventionally the way this art/painting activity is conducted and the way arrangements for their selling are being made...... Alann does not create art that is obliged or limited to live within that typical sale domain/bounds. ..and this eagerness/enthusiasm of his gives me some distinctive ...

MULUGETA Painter Instructor In 1980, while Mulugeta was defending his diploma work, he spent the entire time allocated in analyzing and interpreting the application of the painting, the drawing, the composition-in short, the formal elements-rather than the subject matter of the painting. This is unusual; graduates defending their works typically spend more time talking about the historical or national significance of their work than about the nuts and bolts of how it was done, executed or achieved. Mulugeta picked a popular subject matter not so much for its historical value, but to avoid exclusion and animosity by the socialist cadre. The significance of the subject matter is and has always been secondary to him. Needless to say Mulugeta is proud of his past, but never explicitly shows the pride or the burden of it. FluidPaint is a novel digital paint system using real brushes. A new interactive canvas, accurately registering brush footprints and paint strokes in high precision has been developed. It is based on the real-time imaging of brushes and other painting instruments as well as the real-time co-located rendering of the painting results. This new painting user interface enhances the user experience and artists expressiveness. User tests demonstrate the intuitive nature of FluidPaint, naturally integrating interface elements of traditional painting in a digital paint system.
