This is the shocking, previously untold story of over 50000 Irish men, women and children who were transported to Barbados and Virginia between 1652 and 1659. The motivation for the initial transportation of the Irish was expressed by King James I of England: "Root out the Papists and fill it [Ireland] with Protestants." From a search that began in the library of the Barbados Museum and Historical Society and its files on Irish slaves, Sean O'Callaghan for the first time documents the history of their transportation, the conditions in which they lived on the plantations and their rebellions in Barbados. Animated by Guy O'Neal, Cornerstone Graphics The launch of SciTech 2010, under the auspices of the National Council for Science and Technology (NCST), takes place this Thursday, March 4th at 11 am at the Barbados Concorde Experience at Grantley Adams International Airport, and previews the expo being held at the Gymnasium March 11th to 14th. The showcase highlights the need to focus on science and technology, and its critical role in national development, as Barbadians use their talents to add to the explosion of high tech gadgets and resources coming on the global market. SciTech 2010, which has moved from its previous home of Sherbourne, is open to the public from 10 am to 8 pm each day, and while the focus is on the development of new ideas by school students, will also feature entertainment by Barbadian artists, who themselves are using the technologies available to their own profession. Innovative creations will be on display from students at a wide range of secondary schools, and also from Project Discovery, a scientific group that will for the first time, use the combined resources of students from different secondary schools on one project. This year one of the featured exhibitors will be Toon Boom, a premier animation company which produced the animation for Disneys The Princess and The Frog and the Fox Network show, The Simpsons. A flash mob to wish everyone in Barbados a happy Independence whether you are visiting or Barbadian or just Bajan. it occurred on Saturday 19th November 2011 at 1:13pm on the middle of Broad Street between First Caribbean Bank and Cave Sheperd this was the most fun that ive had performing. everyone who heard the music came to see what the commotion was only to see the University Dance Society of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus dancing to different genres of music in the middle of the street and disperse as quickly as it started.
