Doha International Airport (IATA: DOH, ICAO: OTBD) (Arabic: مطار الدوحة الدولي‎) is the only commercial airport in Qatar. It has three mosques, free Wi-Fi, a duty-free area, eateries and 42 parking bays for aircraft. There are also 60 check-in gates, 8 baggage claim belts and over 1000 car parking spaces. The airport suffers from overutilization even though the airport has been expanded numerous times. The current capacity stands at 12 million passengers per year. Its 15000 ft (4600 m) runway is one of the longest at a civil airport. It is the main base of Qatar Airways. In the past, the airport was mostly used by Qatari holiday makers and foreign workers coming for the oil and gas sector. Now the airport is attracting more people such as holiday makers and transit travellers. It is also growing as Qatar Airways is expanding more rapidly. As of 2010, it was the world's 27th busiest airport by cargo traffic. The control tower and ancillary buildings were designed by Curtis W. Fentress, FAIA, RIBA of Fentress Architects. The existing airport will be replaced in early 2013 when the first phase of New Doha International Airport is expected to open. The new airport is located 4 km from the current facility. It covers 5400 acres (approx. 2200 hectares) of land and will be able to handle 12.5 million passengers per year after the first phase of construction is completed. The airport is currently ranked as a 3-star by Skytrax.

www.endoruddle.com I'm really happy today to spend just a few minutes and give you a little recap on a long, long trip that Phyllis and I took to the Middle East. We've had many opportunities to travel extensively in our lives to virtually every continent on the planet and we've been to the Middle East before but this was a special trip because we hadn't been there for some years. Let me give you just a little recap about some of the places and the people and the things that I experienced—that Phyllis and I experienced together during our trip. Well, it was a two week trip that started on January 9. We flew down to LAX and out of Los Angeles you can catch a direct flight to Dubai. That would be our first destination and we were going to fly Air Emirates. I would have to say, if you're flying, you might want to consider Air Emirates because it is one of the better airlines we've ever flown. It competes right up there with Singapore Airlines. Obviously when you get on the plane and you're going to be flying for 16 hours, it's very important to make friends with the stewardesses. They're a delight to have around and especially when they're courteous and polite and we had a remarkable trip over even though it was long. We took the polar route. During the polar route, it was a really interesting journey to look down and fly over some of these areas at 30000 feet, you can make out the continents perfectly. Shakardara is a beautiful valley in district Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The EU must reassess its bilateral relations with Syria, Bahrain and Yemen in the light of their violent repression of demonstrators, and talks on a future Association Agreement with Syria must be suspended, members of the European Parliament said on Thursday as they passed a resolution in Strasbourg. MEPs are also concerned about the presence of international troops in Bahrain and call for an investigation into the death of 54 protestors in Yemen. EU negotiations on the still-pending Association Agreement with Syria must be suspended until the Syrian authorities carry out "expected tangible democratic reforms", say MEPs. The resignation of Syria's government on 29 March "will not be enough to satisfy the growing frustrations of the people", they add. President Bashar al-Assad must put an end to repression of political opposition and human right defenders, lift the state of emergency and undertake genuine political, economic and social reforms, says the resolution. The use of violence by a state against its own people must always have direct consequences, stresses the resolution, drafted by the EPP, S&D, ALDE, Greens/EFA and ECR groups and passed by a show of hands. MEPs therefore call on both the EU and national governments to revise bilateral relations with Bahrain and Yemen, and consider imposing asset freezes or travel bans.
