| | Taher Adel -Who Am I? Duration : 118 Seconds Poem about Bahrain written and recited by Taher Adel Who Am I? Who are you to break pearls and hide between their oyster homes? Who are you that claims to be king but knows not his people Who are you to scald your name upon my freedom? Who are you that you carve golden memories, moulded upon our backs? Who are you to set me alight and watch while I slowly burn? Who are you to own the letters and words that form my thought? Who are you to have an army at my door step, who am I to reply with a rose? Who am I? Who am I for tears to quench an eye not mine? Who am I with tears cascading off innocent cheeks? Who am I to hide between the sun and your shadow, afraid of both? Who am I to offer my breath when you've left me none to share? Who am I to pray to the skies when I've been deprived of land? Who am I to paint you in white when you've painted me in red? Who Am I to weave questions into words Hoping my voice will sink right in Deep down to your very core Asking you once more Who is the King and who is the slave? Who are you and who Am I? | | Mujtaba Barlas's mother reciting poetry Duration : 281 Seconds My friend Mujtaba Barlas's mother, Ms. Riffat Rahi, is a connoisseur of Urdu literature and, specially, classical Urdu poetry. She is the widow of the famous Urdu poet Mustafa Rahi, a soul-devotee and disciple of his eminence Jigar Muradabadi. Upon much insistence of the guests, and to her distinguished grace, she recited this beautiful Ghazal, written by her late husband. The occasion was a dinner hosted recently in her honour at Noor Pathan's residence. Noor Pathan is another lover and great supporter of Urdu literature in Bahrain. I am sharing this video on YouTube with the permission of Ms. Riffat's Bahrain-based son, Mujtaba Barlas. I hope, like me, you will also treasure it as a relic from the fast diminishing literary and cultural traditions. | | Poem: Islam is More than Just the Middle East Duration : 137 Seconds The Middle East might not be as bad as you think it is. You should go there before you make a judgement. Islam, as a religion, represents more than the Middle East. There are more Muslims that are non-Arab. Arabs only make up a small percentage of the Muslims worldwide. Most Muslims are Asian. I just thought I would write this poem to challenge the way that people think. Don't base your opinion of Islam on a false sensationalized version of the Middle East, which is presented by the media. That is the whole point of the poem. Tags :Islam, Muslim, Saudi, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Muslim humor, Malaysia, Indonesia, Muslim poem, Muslim poetry, sociology
