| | Bahrain 2009 Video 8 Duration : 251 Seconds I took this video while walking around Bahrain Fort. (Qal'at al-Bahrain) It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. The archaeological site of Bahrain Fort is one of the largest in Bahrain. It is located on the north coast of the island. The area of this mound is about 400x700 meters and about 8 meters in height. An Islamic fort dating back to the 16th century AD dominates the site and may be the location of the old capital of Dilmon. It contains remains of cities which were inhabited during many periods, 4000- 5000 years ago. The study of these remains form the foundation of Bahrain's history that has played such a prominent role in Arabian Gulf archaeology. Excavations by the Danish archaeological expedition have unveiled the remains of buildings of six cities located around the fort. First City: Built near the sea, the houses of the first city were small and apparently without walls. No signs of this city can be traced now because the new huge buildings of the second city have covered it. It seems that it was built at the beginning of the third millennium BC, about 2800 BC Second City: A city surrounded with huge wall that can be seen in the excavations at three sites around the mound is located on the northwest side of the fort. It is 100 yards from the coast and 100 feet from the northern perimeter, where the stones, which were extracted during a late period, have disappeared. Many parts of the internal front of the wall are still intact. The opening ... | | Bahrain hosts heritage festival Duration : 101 Seconds In a bid to keep traditions and cultures alive, Bahrain is hosting a festival of folklore and arts for the entire month of May. Museums and exhibition centers in the capital of Manama are the venues for a series of events and performances, casting the spotlight on traditional storytelling in the country. "The main thing of this festival is to teach children how to protect the intangible stories and folk tales and fairy tales that we have in our nation in Bahrain, and that's why we try to record it in some stories, some plays and songs. We also try to write a book about the old heritage folks in Bahrain," Mohammed al-Sulaiti, Director of Archaeology and Heritage at the Ministry of Culture and Education. Under the title "Folk Tales: Sea, Land and City," the festival exhibits photographs and films which allow locals as well as foreigners to gain insight into Bahrain's past, while festival activities commemorate the country's heritage. Despite the ongoing tension in the country, organizers hope to attract local and foreign visitors to the event to watch performances by traditional dancers and basket weavers work on their traditional crafts, as well as listen to old Bahraini fishing songs. Al-Sulaiti said the festival, which is also a part of a campaign in marking Manama as the Arab Capital of Culture 2012, aims to pass Bahraini culture onto future generations as well as give local artisans an opportunity to showcase their talents. | | Failaka Island Operation Desert Storm Iraqi capture 03-03-1991 Duration : 235 Seconds Failaka Island OPERATION DESERT STORM 1991 Failaka Island lies twenty kilometers east of Kuwait City, opposite the Bay of that name, and 50 kilometers from the southernmost tip of Iraq. It is one of the most important islands of Kuwait. Its area is approximately twenty-four square kilometers. It is triangular with its base in the west and head in the southeast It is fourteen kilometers in length, and its breadth varies between eight kilometers in the west, five in the middle, and two in the east. The island is flat, apart from a small hill thirty feet high in the extreme western part. It is linked to Kuwait City through a submarine pipeline that provides sweet water to the inhabitants of Failaka. Parallel to this are three submarine power cables that provide electricity. Failaka Island has its own source of water, but this was not sufficient as its population grew in the years prior to the Invasion, so a pipeline was laid from the mainland. The Island of Failaka is one of the most beautiful and most famous islands of Kuwait. Pronounced "Failacha" in the local dialect, it combines the ancient history of Kuwait, dating back to the early Stone Age and the modern history of Kuwait. The home of Kuwait's main archaeological site, Failaka's history goes back to the Bronze Age Dilmun civilization, which was centerd in Bahrain. It may be assumed that there was at least inter-Gulf trade between 2200 and 1800 BC. The Greeks arrived in the 4th century BC in the form of a garrison ... | | Baluchistan We Will Unite you again Duration : 213 Seconds Baluchistan Literally Meaning "The Land Of Baluchs", Median Empire //////////////////////////////// The Baluch people of today are descendants of ancient Median and Persian tribes. Historical references of ancient Persia have made it possible to arrive at this conclusion. Maka is mentioned by Greek historian Herodotus as one of the early satraps of Cyrus the Great, who successfully united several ancient Iranian tribes to create an empire.[14][15] In the Behistun Inscription, Darius the Great mentions Maka as one of his eastern territories.[16] Darius is recorded to have personally led his elite forces, whose ranks were restricted to those with Persian, Mede or Elamite ancestry, to fight the invading Scythians of Asia[17] and then led the conquests in South Asia,[18][19][20] where he conquered Sindh in 519 BC, constituted it as his 20th Satrapy, and made use of the oceans there.[21][22] Darius wanted to know more about Asia, according to Herodotus; he also wished to know where the "Indus (which is the only river save one that produces crocodiles) emptied itself into the sea".[23] The present region of Makran, which is inhabited by Baluch people, derived its name from the word "Maka". The Babylonians had also made voyages using Maka to communicate with India.[24] Maka had also communicated with Euphrates, Tigris and Indus valley, objects from the Harappan culture have also been found in modern-day Oman, other archaeology suggest that Maka was exporting copper.
