Fresh herbs, including mint, coriander, dill, basil, parsley, tarragon, leek, chive, thyme, marjoram, green onion and watercress, are very popular and often accompany main dishes. The Caspian Sea is home to many edible species of fish, including the sturgeon, Caspian salmon, kutum, sardines, grey mullet, and others. Black caviar from the Caspian Sea is one of Azerbaijan's best known delicacies well sought after in other parts of the world, including former Soviet countries. The main courses of Azerbaijani cuisine are over 30 kinds of soups, including those prepared from plain yogurt. | | AZERBAIJAN MAY ASSIST AFRICAN COUNTRIES Duration : 112 Seconds Today, at the House of Government, Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture Ismet Abbasov and deputy director general of UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Fernanda Guerrieri signed a document to hold 28th FAO regional conference and 37th session of European Commission for Agriculture on 17-19 April, 2012, in Azerbaijan. Minister Abbasov said that Azerbaijan government will implement preparation works of the event successfully together with FAO. "I am inviting ministers of all 54 member states to Azerbaijan" said the Minister. Mrs. Guerrieri said that the priorities in the field of agriculture, forestry and fishing, and FAO budget for the next 2 years will be determined She said that Azerbaijan has great natural resources. "Agriculture in Azerbaijan plays a great role in the employment of the population. 38 % of people are employed in agriculture sphere. For this reason, a great attention should be paid to agriculture," she said. The UN official called upon Azerbaijan to help African countries. "Azerbaijan can assist countries of Eastern Africa in the technical sphere and processing agricultural products. These countries need help. Food safety of population is 30-40 % in these regions," she said. She also said that there is a need in Azerbaijan to raise public awareness regarding food safety. "In the areas outside Baku the climate is unstable. That's why FAO is implementing projects in Azerbaijan. Best practices are studied and proposals are submitted to the government ...
