Shahar Yeri Ancient - Azerbaijan, Iran
Duration : 360 Seconds

Archaeologists working at the ancient site of Shahar Yeri say that the inhabitants of the region forgot their gods, beliefs, and holy places due to the advent of a new political order. Shahar Yeri is located near Pirazmeyan village, 32 kilometers from Meshkinshahr in Azerbaijan region of Iran. The Iron Age site contains a castle, three temples, and a number of other architectural ruins. The archaeologists believe that the inhabitants lost their religion after they were conquered by the Urartians. "The walls of a castle crossing one of the temples of Shahar Yeri show that the people paid no attention to their old beliefs and holy places when the castle was built on the temple during the time the Urartians dominated the region," the director of the team of archaeologists, Alireza Hojabri Nobari, told the Cultural Heritage News (CHN) agency on Wednesday. Over 500 stone steles bearing images of faces of men and women with no mouths were discovered at Shahar Yeri during the third phase of excavations in early July. The steles were totems which were worshiped by the people of Shahar Yeri. "The Urartians invaded Shahar Yeri, attacking the beliefs of the inhabitants and began promoting Khaldi, the god of their political religion," Nobari said. Khaldi was the supreme god of the Urartians. Khaldi formed a triad with Theispas and Artinis. The Urartians regarded him as their ancestor. Khaldi's main temple was built in the ancient city of Musasir, southwest of Lake Urmia. Nobari had ...

THE NEW TEARS OF ARAXES
Duration : 318 Seconds

Featuring a never-seen-before satellite image of a vandalized medieval cemetery at the Iranian-Azerbaijani border, "The New Tears of Araxes," a five-minute film, tells the tragic story of thousands of ancient Armenian headstones flattened to the ground by the Azerbaijani authorities in Djulfa or Julfa (Jugha in Armenian), Nakhichevan. On December 15, 2005, eyewitnesses across the River Araxes videotaped Azeri soldiers destroying Armenian burial monuments - khachkars (cross stones) - some as old as 1500 years. Azerbaijani officials denied the vandalism, but banned European Parliament members from visiting the site in March of 2006. Only a few outside news sources tried to publicize the tragedy. "The New Tears of Araxes" is written by Sarah Pickman, a University of Chicago student, who was the only American reporter to cover the tragedy when she interned for Archaeology Magazine. Producer and narrator Simon Maghakyan, who is among America's top 20 college students according to USA TODAY (April 24, 2006), hopes the film will break a year of ignorance and silence. When asked why others should care, Maghakyan quotes Martin Luther King Jr. as saying, "Injustice anywhere is threat to justice everywhere." Music by Djivan Gasparian (Gladiator, The Passion of the Christ, Munich, Syriana); Digital sound track production by Transtar Entertainment Group; Photographs by Research on Armenian Architecture, and Argam Ayvazian; Footage of 2005 destruction by Tabriz's Armenian Church, Iran ...

Thor Heyerdahl's Odin theory
Duration : 324 Seconds

en.wikipedia.org According to Thor Heyerdahlthe Norwegian mythology tells that the Scandinavian god Odin moved with his people to Norway from a land called Aser, in order to avoid Roman occupation. A 13th-century historian's description of Aser's origination matches that of Azerbaijan: east of the Caucasus mountains and the Black Sea. Heyerdahl and other scholar are convinced that people living in the area now known as Azerbaijan settled in Scandinavia around 100 AD. Roman troops arrived in Azerbaijan in 97 AD. Odin came from the land of the "Aser" (Aeser), and is, therefore, frequently referred to as "Asa-Odin" (Aser-Odin). Asgard or Ásegard is the realm of the Gods Aser in Norse religion and Norse mythology. The exact meaning of "Asgard is Aser Land or the Land of Aser". Modern day Scandinavians migrated north from the east of the Caucasus, Aserbaijan (Azerbaijan/Caucasian Albania) in prehistoric times. According to Icelandic Sagas, written in the 13th century, the Norse God Odin migrated from the east of the Caucasus, from Aserbaijan in the first century AD. Heyerdahl concluded that Azerbaijan and not northern Europe was the center from which the Caucasian people spread so that Chinese archaeologists would find their 4000 years old remains buried in northwestern China. He based that conclusion on early Norwegian sagas written down by the Icelander, Snorre Sturlason, before his death in 1241, (Snorri, The Sagas of the Viking Kings of Norway. Azerbaycan Gaval Dashy (tambourine stone) - Qaval Daşı
Duration : 227 Seconds

Cingiz Mehdiyev, the renowned Azerbaijani percussionist, playing the famous Gaval Dashy (Tambourine Stone) in Qobustan (Gobustan), Azerbaijan. Gobustan may be seen as a unique source of knowledge on the period from the 10000 BC to the Middle Ages covering the fields of history, culture, art and archaeology. A thorough and detailed study of Gobustan's rock drawings, particularly their overlapping and also their style, themes, way of composition, and technique of performance as well as comparison with similar dated rock drawings in this and other countries allow some suggestions about their dating. The rock drawings of Gobustan are very diverse as to their themes and content. Among them one can find pictures of human beings, wild bulls, deer, bezoar goats, lions, gazelles, horses, wild asses, some of them being nearly life-size. There are also drawings on some rocks, representing collective labour processes, reaping, sacrifice, hunting scenes, battle scenes. There is a picture of a group dance for instance, which is done in a circle with arms on each other's shoulders - forerunner of the yalla danced in Azerbaijan to this day. Linguistically "yalla" is cognate to "yal" which means "food". The "food dance" was presumably a magic rite done before hunting. It might also have served as good training for huntsmen-nimble synchronous movements are essential in collective chase. A very attractive relic of the past is so called "gaval dash" (tambourine stone), which emits a booming ...

Republic of Kurdistan in Mahabad 1946
Duration : 580 Seconds

The Republic of Mahabad (Kurdish: Komarî Mehabad), officially known as Republic of Kurdistan and established in Eastern Kurdistan ( Persian occupied Kurdistan ), was a short-lived, Kurdish state of the 20th century after the Republic of Ararat in Turkey. The capital was the city of Mahabad in northwestern of present Iran. In August 1941, a general uprising wrested control of the Kurdish region from the central Iranian government. In the town of Mahabad, inhabited mostly by Kurds, a committee of middle-class people supported by tribal chiefs, took over the local administration. A political party called the Society for the Revival of Kurdistan (Komeley Jiyanewey Kurdistan or JK) was formed. Qazi Muhammad, head of a family of religious jurists, was elected as chairman of the party. Although the republic was not formally declared until December 1945, the committee headed by Qazi, administered the area with commendable efficiency and success for over five years until the fall of the republic. Soviet and British forces occupied Iran in late August 1941, with the Soviets controlling the north. The Soviets were mainly ambivalent towards the Kurdish administration. They did not maintain a garrison near Mahabad and also did not have any civil agent of sufficient standing to exercise any great influence. They encouraged Qazi's administration by practical benevolent operations such as providing motor transport, keeping out the Iranian army, and buying the whole of the tobacco crop ...

Who were our ancestors- Genetic history of Europe - DNA - Truth or Machination from IGENEA.
Duration : 325 Seconds

Who were our ancestors? From where do we originate? www.igenea.com Most people can trace their family tree back no further than three or four generations. Thanks to genetic analysis, however, it is possible to look back into millennia long past. The story of our ancestors is probably one of the most exciting of all time. It is the story of mankind. For decades the only evidence available to anthropologists and archaeologists were the small amount of bones and objects left behind by our ancestors. Hence, it was not possible to really prove the various theories of evolution. It is only in the past 20 years that researchers have been able to use the DNA of living people as a means of finding evidence of the migrations of their primeval ancestors. DNA is identical to a degree of 99.9 percent for all people. The remaining 0.1% is the source of individual differences (such as eye colour, certain risks of disease, or deviations with no apparent function). DNA-Genealogy makes it possible for you to research your family tree with the most modern methods. It makes fast and exact research into your family history possible, whether as your first venture into researching your ancestry or as a supplement to traditional genealogy. Where traditional research into your ancestry examines birth, marriage, and death certificates, a simple saliva sample is all that's needed for DNA-Genealogy. That's because each of us carries with us the most important and exact set of files needed: our DNA ...

Ancient Armenian civilization-Urartu/Ararat/Armenian Kingdom
Duration : 483 Seconds

Jacquetta Hawkes, "The First Great Civilizations," London, 1967 "Yet the Hurrians did not disappear from history. Away to the North in their Armenian homeland, they entrenched themselves and build up the kingdom of Urartu." M. Chahin, "The Kingdom of Armenia," London, 2001 "The new kingdom of Urartu, which proved to be the stronghold of the Hurrian race." Greater Armenia lies in the highlands surrounding Mount Ararat, the highest peak of the region. In the Bronze Age, several states flourished in the area of Greater Armenia, including the Hittite Empire (at the height of its power), Mitanni (South-Western historical Armenia), and Hayasa-Azzi (1600-1200 BC). Soon after the Hayasa-Azzi were the Nairi (1400-1000 BC) and the Kingdom of Urartu (1000-600 BC), who successively established their sovereignty over the Armenian Highland.
