| | Hans Eichner's Kahn & Engelmann: A Book Trailer Duration : 83 Seconds A critical and commercial success in German, Kahn & Engelmann tells the story of a Jewish family from rural Hungary, their immigration to Vienna in the great days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, their loves, business ventures and failings, and their eventual tragic destruction. Narrated by Peter Engelmann, who wishes only to forget his past, this highly original novel recreates a vanished Vienna with salty humour and humanity. In a voice which is appealing without being sentimental, Peter describes his escape from the Nazis through snowy woods, his attempts to start a new life in England and Canada, and his decision to immigrate to Israel. Written by an eminent scholar, himself a survivor of Nazism, Kahn & Engelmann is both an entertaining novel and a major work of Holocaust literature. Kahn & Engelmann is a lively and affectionate story one of the finest novels Ive read all year. Hans-Harald Müller, Literaturkritik Only rarely does a novel depict the atmosphere of Jewish life as authentically as Hans Eichners Kahn & Engelmann. Evelyn Adunka, Literaturhaus Hans Eichner was born into a Jewish family in Vienna, Austria in 1921. He escaped from the Nazis to Belgium, then England. | | Why Libertarians Need Austrian Economics and Peter Schiff Duration : 839 Seconds Many libertarians are unfamiliar with Austrian economics and its explanation of the business cycle and are therefore at a supreme disadvantage. The Austrian school provides a sound explanation of the business cycle and a consistent philosophy for libertarianism in general. Famous Austrian economists include Peter Schiff, Henry Hazlitt, FA Hayek, Ludwig von Mises, Murray Rothbard, and more. For a fantastic book as an introduction to Austrian economics and the housing/financial crisis, please read Tom Woods' book "Meltdown". It is a great resource. | | Author Paul Cantor on The Economics of Literature Duration : 404 Seconds Paul Cantor, professor of English at the University of Virginia, is an anomaly in world of literary criticism and the study of popular culture. While many academics employ an economic approach to the study of literature, they are invariably informed by Marxist critiques. Cantor, who attended the New York lectures of Ludwig von Mises as a teenager, argues that there is much to be learned from a pro-capitalist reading of literature. In August, Cantor sat down with Reason senior editor Michael C. Moynihan to discuss Literature and the Economics of Liberty, a new book of essays he edited with Stephen Cox, that looks at the work of Walt Whitman, Willa Cather, HG Wells, and others through the prism of Austrian economics. Approximately 6.45 seconds. Shot by Meredith Bragg and Dan Hayes. Edited by Josh Swain.
