[Rocket Media Communications GmbH] [www.rocketmedia.at] The 13th „World Bodypainting Festival" at Lake Millstättersee was once again Europe´s most colourful event. The World´s best bodypainters met this week (12-18 July 2010) on Lake Millstättersee (Carinthia/Austria) to compete in the „World Bodypainting Awards". The artform that combines dance, drama, painting and photography together to create boundry breaking art was the reason for thousands of artists to converge on the small Austrian town of Seeboden. The WBF Institute of Sounds plays a large role in the direction of the festivals performances. On the amazing scenery of Lake Millstättersee the 13th World Bodypainting Festival was held between the 12th and 18th of July. This year the main highlight was again the title of World Bodypainting Champion in different categories for which over 200 artists from over 40 countries competed. „It was incredibly impressive to see the passion and professionalism with which these artists create their artworks" said organizer Alex Barendregt. True to the themes „Sources of Power" & „Sub Cultures" the visitors were presented with powerful stage performances each day. The new World Champions got the World-Awards late in the night on Sunday. The „World Bodypainting Festival" is happy to announce an annual growth in the number of visitors to the event. In this year over 28.000 Festival fans were counted in Seeboden. The folklore dance group named "DrahdiWadln" was one of the highlights at the Viennese Spring Festival in the Lainzer Park, a large green outdoor area in the suburbs of Vienna. The day was blessed with fabulous weather, sunshine and 21 degrees C. Perfekt conditions for enjoying a day outdoors, a picnic, and listening as well as participating in Austrian folk dances. The dance groups name DrahdiWadln is Austrian slang and freely translates to "turn you lower legs" which is just another way of saying "let's dance". At the beginning they invited the audience to join them. They kicked their event off with a dance in which kids could participate, followed by another easy dance for anyone who had the desire to join them on the stage. Thereafter the showed off their skills. One of their dances was called "Fensterln" song. "Fensterln" refers to the traditional custom of young rural lads bringing a ladder in the evening to their lovers home high in the Alps, to climb up to the window of their persued gal. Window means Fenster, and fensterln is the act of climbing up to the window in order to get a kiss or more from the lover. Music was performed by the band "D'Unterdörfler" (translates to "the ones from the village at the bottom"). Both teams played and dances well together presenting Austrian folk music and austrian folk dances at their best. Good fun for young and old. Andreas Sobczyk, along with pur-suing his passion for boogie, blues and traditional jazz, also studied classical piano at the Hochschule für Musik in Nuremberg (D) and in Charkov (UA) before settling four years ago in Vienna, the "Blues City". At 18 years of age, he had already begun to receive invitations to perform at festivals, such as the Munich Tollwood Festival, Kempten Jazzfrühling, and many club concerts throughout south Germany. Since then, the young pianist with his unerring sense for authenticity has been playing his way upwards in the international boogie and blues scene. In addition to many club gigs in Austria and Germany last year, he had guest appearances at the Vienna Konzerthaus, Alte Oper Frankfurt/ Main, the Philharmonie Charkov, the Vienna Jazzfest, and a lot of Austrian festivals. As a result of frequent collabora-tion with the Original Storyville Jazzband in the Viennese "Jazzland", Andreas Sobczyk is in-corporating music from the wild era of early New Orleans jazz more often into his blues and boogie programme. Aside from being influenced by the old masters of boogie piano Pete Johnson and Meade Lux Lewis, his sound is especially inspired by the style of the old Kansas City pianists like Count Basie or Jay McShann.
