| The Truth about Australian Farms Duration : 232 Seconds ~PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION FIRST~ WARNING: some people may find some scenes in this video distressing This is just a video i made in my spare time to show what happens in Australian Bobby calf, Pork, Ultra fine wool and Live export industrys. * there is no intention of copyright* Bobby Calfs: over 700000 week-old calves discarded yearly as 'waste products' of the dairy industry. Most people aren't aware that in order to produce milk, dairy cows are kept almost continually pregnant. Unwanted calves (known as 'bobby calves') are sent to slaughter in their first week of life so that milk can be harvested for human consumption. Unknown to most consumers, the dairy industry continues to cut costs at the expense of animals. Right now they want to make it legal to deny calves food for the last 30 hours of their lives. Pigs: In Australia, the majority of the 300000 female breeding pigs (sows) are kept inside sheds continually pregnant and confined. It is these animals that produce the piglets destined to become bacon, ham and pork products. Most sows are confined for at least some of their 16 week pregnancy in tiny metal individual stalls, (and one third for the entire pregnancy!) so small they are unable to turn around. At best they can take a small step forward. They have no bedding. They are forced to stand or lie on hard floors. Just prior to giving birth, they are moved to a 'nursery' which would outrage every Australian mother. Pending mothers are confined in an even smaller ... | | The Faces of Australian Farming and Live Export Duration : 347 Seconds In Australia, millions of animals suffer from horrific brutality & cruelty before death. We factory farm most of our animals, live export millions of them, feed them hormones to make them produce more milk, or grow faster for the slaughter. We mules our sheep with shearers & castrate piglets with no anaestetic. Before Australians point the finger at other countries for brutal treatment of farm animals; we should begin by looking at how they are treated here. | | 'Greener Horizons' - 5 Western Australian farmers share their experience with tree crops. Duration : 92 Seconds 'Greener Horizons' - 5 Western Australian farmers tell their stories of how tree crops can improve the sustainability of their farms, their communities and the landscape. In Western Australia lies an area twice the size of Tasmania, called the Avon Wheatbelt. Of the 12 million hectares of land, approximately 8 million have been cleared. This extensive clearing has lead to environmental problems including wind and water erosion, salinity, and loss of habitat. Agriculture is the predominant industry for this region but with narrowing margins and a changing climate, many who live in the region are looking for other options to be able to keep farming while still looking after the environment. Industry scale planting of tree crops not only addresses these environmental issues but will provide sufficient resources for new industries. This will result in income diversification for farmers and increase local job opportunities. This video is of 5 Avon farming families telling their stories -- about how they are trying to heal the land while developing new and sustainable production systems for their future -- their children's future and the future of their communities. We would like to thank Wheatbelt NRM for their vision for the health and sustainability of the Avon Region and for their sponsorship of this production. | | Puppy Farming News Investigation Sydney Australia - Mike Duffy Channel 7 Duration : 110 Seconds Puppy farms are usually large-scale commercial operations, but inadequate conditions may also exist in small volume breeding establishments which may or may not be run for profit. The main problems associated with puppy farms include: over-breeding (too many litters per female), in-breeding (mating close relatives), minimal or no veterinary care, poor hygiene, inadequate and crowded housing conditions and high mortality rates. Breeding animals may never be allowed out of their cage to exercise, play, have companionship or to urinate or defacate. Puppies born in puppy farms often have long-term health and/or behavioural problems as a result of the conditions they are bred in, poor maternal nutrition and a lack of adequate socialisation during the crucial first few weeks of life. Puppies from puppy farms are sold through the internet, newspaper ads, pet shops or sometimes at the puppy farm itself. Puppy farms may also use a house as a 'shop front' to sell their animals from so you don't get to see the poor conditions they breed dogs in. We don't know how many puppy farms there are in Australia, but with the advent of internet sales it is a growing national problem. RSPCA inspectors have seized dogs from puppy farms where hundreds of breeding females have been kept in cages in appalling conditions. Both crossbreeds and purebreeds can be mass-produced on puppy farms (although the purebreds are unlikely to be registered as pedigree dogs). Recent cases that the RSPCA has ...
