Glenreagh Mountain Railway - Australia
Duration : 161 Seconds

Glenreagh Mountain Railway, known as the GMR, was established in 1989 as a heritage tourist railway at Glenreagh, near Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia. GMR's objective is to restore and operate a heritage tourist railway on the Glenreagh to Ulong section of the Glenreagh to Dorrigo railway line. GMR is a non-profit, community-based organisation run entirely by volunteers, and has an authority to raise funds under the Charitable Collections Act. The GMR acquired the 35-kilometre section to Ulong in 1999 from the then State Rail Authority of New South Wales, and is currently restoring this section of line as well as rolling stock, to enable the heritage tourist railway to operate. GMR's current rolling stock includes steam locomotive Z19 class 1919, 4-wheel watergin L568, TAM sleeping car, 2 heritage end-platform cars, S trucks, ex-Sydney interurban cars ("U-boats") and numerous trikes and track maintenance vehicles. As of December 2005, GMR has completed trackwork to safe working standards for train operation from Glenreagh West Depot 3.5 km west to Talawajah Creek. Steam train operations are scheduled one weekend a month subject to fire bans. Glenreagh Mountain Railways is not currently operating. This is due to the fact that we have not yet managed to renew our safety accreditation, which ran out at the end of January 2008. We are working hard to achieve this, and return to our previous operations. At the moment, it is not possible to give a reliable estimate ...

Bonsai with Australian Natives: Bonsai Basics
Duration : 479 Seconds

This was part of my HSC Design and Technology major work in 2006. I combined my Japanese and Australian heritage with my interests in video and technology. Part 1: Bonsai Basics Tree: Moreton Bay Fig This video deals with choosing your tree and repotting techniques. Made with CyberLink PowerDirector4. To anyone looking to make bonsai with Australian plants, I highly recommend figs. The one featured in this video is still alive despite my neglect. Figs are also interesting to watch as they grow. You can see the leaves as they form. They also shoot aerial roots. They are rainforest trees, but they can grow anywhere and everywhere.

Bonsai with Australian Natives: Informal Upright
Duration : 279 Seconds

This was part of my HSC Design and Technology major work in 2006. I combined my Japanese and Australian heritage with my interests in video and technology. Part 2: Informal Upright Tree: Bottlebrush This video demonstrates how to create the informal upright style. Made with CyberLink PowerDirector4. This tree lasted at least a year before it died of neglect. I still recommend Australian figs as the best for bonsai, however bottlebrush are possible with good care. Some tips you need to know, only give fertiliser designed for natives, as Australian soil is different to other countries, so native plants have different requirements. Also pinch back new growth, one of my bonsai teachers recommended this to prevent the branches becoming too long and bare.

Bonsai with Australian Natives: Cascade
Duration : 307 Seconds

This was part of my HSC Design and Technology major work in 2006. I combined my Japanese and Australian heritage with my interests in video and technology. Part 3: Cascade Tree: Grevillea This video demonstrates how to create the cascading style. Made with CyberLink PowerDirector4. My brother helped film this one. This tree was the first to die. Grevillea can be difficult to grow, they are a bit unpredictable as bonsai. As ground cover plants, they can have great natural shapes to become cascades, but since they often don't last, it can be very frustrating. Few Australian plants are suitable for cascades, especially as some are known to drop weaker branches. Without control over the branches you want, you can't control the bonsai's shape. I think I have seen it done with Aussie figs however. Again, I recommend figs as the best Australian plants for bonsai.

uwa may 2008 A LOOK AROUND THE UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA WA PERTH
Duration : 478 Seconds

The University of Western Australia (UWA) is the oldest university in the state of Western Australia. Established in February 1911, it is the only university in the state to be a member of the prestigious Group of Eight, as well as the Sandstone universities. The original campus was located on Irwin Street in the centre of Perth, and consisted of several buildings situated between Hay Street and St George's Terrace. Irwin Street was also known as "Tin Pan Alley" as many buildings featured a corrugated iron roof. These buildings served as the university campus until 1932, when the campus relocated to its present-day site in Crawley ( 31°58′49″S, 115°49′7″E). In the 1910s the founding Chancellor, Sir John Winthrop Hackett, bequeathed a sum of over £425000 to the University which allowed the construction of its magnificent main buildings at the present-day campus. Many buildings and landmarks within the University bear his name, including Winthrop Hall and Hackett Hall. A remnant of the original buildings survives to this day in the form of the "Irwin Street Building", so-called due to its former location. In the 1930s it was transported to the new campus and served a number of uses till its 1987 restoration, which saw the original architecture restored and the building moved across campus to James Oval. Recently, the building has served as the Senate meeting room and is currently in use as a cricket pavilion and storage space for the University Archives. The building has ...

An insight to Australia. ALL hateful or spam comments will be removed so don't bother with them. The song behind it is called We Are Australian. I also ask that you respond to this with your own videos about your country's heritage, landmarks and culture. Itd be good to see. Enjoy LYRICS [1] I came from the dreamtime from the dusty red soil plains I am the ancient heart, the keeper of the flame I stood upon the rocky shore I watched the tall ships come For forty thousand years I'd been the first Australian. [2] I came upon the prison ship bowed down by iron chains. I cleared the land, endured the lash and waited for the rains. I'm a settler. I'm a farmer's wife on a dry and barren run A convict then a free man I became Australian. [3] I'm the daughter of a digger who sought the mother lode The girl became a woman on the long and dusty road I'm a child of the depression I saw the good times come I'm a bushy, I'm a battler I am Australian [chorus] We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We share a dream and sing with one voice: I am, you are, we are Australian I am, you are, we are Australian. [4] I'm a teller of stories I'm a singer of songs I am Albert Namatjira I paint the ghostly gums I am Clancy on his horse I'm Ned Kelly on the run I'm the one who waltzed Matilda I am Australian [5] I'm the hot wind from the desert I'm the black soil of the plains I'm the mountains and the valleys I'm the drought and flooding rains I am the rock, I am the ...

At the most westerly point of the Australian continent, Shark Bay, with its islands and the land surrounding it, has three exceptional natural features: its vast sea-grass beds, which are the largest (4800 km2) and richest in the world; its dugong ('sea cow') population; and its stromatolites (colonies of algae which form hard, dome-shaped deposits and are among the oldest forms of life on earth). Grandpa's Song . . . Vika & Linda Bull
Duration : 279 Seconds

This song was written for their grandfather, it is sung by Linda although it is Vika's story. . . . It tells of Vika aged five being picked up after school by her visiting grandfather, he had just arrived from Tonga. He was a very proud and strong man and he turned up wearing a shirt, his Tupenu (a wrap or a long skirt ) and sandals on his feet. None of her school friends had ever seen anything like it, men were supposed to wear trousers. She was so angry and embarassed by him that she yelled that she would see him at home. She marched off and he followed, giggling to himself. To this day she says she regrets what she did. She shunned him for being Tongan and for what he was wearing. Today she says that she is "proud of her Tongan heritage and of her Australian heritage, and thanks her parents for teaching her this".

Echuca, Australia, Travel Video Guide
Duration : 245 Seconds

In the 1860s to the early 1900's, Echuca was a bustling port with paddlesteamers ferrying people and goods all through the the Murray, Darling and Murrumbidgee River systems. Accommodation : www.nomadsworld.com By the early 1970's, the port was derelict and unused. The council of the day decided that its paddlesteamer heritage was unique and started restoration of the port. Today the paddlesteamers are making a comeback. Many old sunken boats are being repaired to their former glory. Kevin Hutchinson is a Shipwright who has played a large role in the paddlesteamer revival. Echuca is a great example of how rural towns can use their heritage to establish tourism.
