Vladimir Arutyunian, an ethnic Armenian citizen of the Republic of Georgia. Vladimir Arutyunian, who attempted to kill Bush and his Georgian counterpart Mikhail Saakashvili during an outdoor rally in Tbilisi in 10 May 2005. Armenian terrorism has a long and deadly history. The attempt on the lives of Presidents Bush and Saakashvili is yet another example of Armenian terrorism exported abroad since 1973. Between 1973 and the present Armenian terrorists have committed 239 acts of terrorism, which have killed at least 70 and wounded 524 innocent people. Of those attacks, 30 were committed on American soil. According to FBI, between the years 1980 and 1986, Armenian terrorism accounted for the second highest number of terrorist incidents in the United States. The latest cooperation between Al-Qaeda and Armenian terrorist groups is disturbing and calls for a serious response from the governments of the United States and Armenia.

Broadcast Date: March 12, 1985 One security guard is dead and the Turkish ambassador is severely injured following an attack on Turkey's embassy in Ottawa. At 7 am, three well-armed men drive up to the gate of the Turkish Embassy in a rented moving truck. They shoot the guard outside his bulletproof enclosure, vault the fence and blast their way into the embassy with explosives. In this clip, a CBC radio reporter finds himself playing an active role in the drama. Once inside, the gunmen -- who describe themselves as "Armenian revolutionaries" -- take the embassy's occupants hostage and begin to negotiate. But rather than talking to police, they spell out their demands to CBC Radio's Vince Carlin, saying they want the Turkish government to acknowledge the Armenian genocide of 1915. At one point, the Turkish ambassador attempts to escape by jumping out a second-storey window. Four hours after it began, it's all over when the attackers lay down their guns in exchange for a police promise not to shoot. The other hostages are released unharmed, but the ambassador is left with a broken leg, arm and pelvis.

Following the Lausanne Treaty, the 'Armenian Issue' ceased to exist. However, the Armenians of Diaspora, clinging firmly to their allegations, unleashed a series of terrorist attacks on Turkish diplomatic missions abroad as of 1970. All these attacks were masterminded by ASALA for short, the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia. Under a mask of independence, ASALA carried out ruthless and dastardly attacks. Psychologically and logistically supported by the Hinchaks, ASALA engaged in acts of terror against Turkish diplomats, representation offices and other organizations. These armed assaults rapidly escalated in a short period of time. Armenians who had assured bases for their activities in both Europe and the East, Syria and Lebanon in particular, continued their acts of terror in collaboration with Greeks and Greek Cypriots. As a result of the world wide repercussion of these armed attacks on Turkish diplomats, Armenian terror organizations changed tactics in the 1980's and began this time to collaborate with the separatist terror organizaion PKK, and later abandoned the scene to this organization. Having proclaimed the period between April 21 and 28, 1980 as the 'Red Week', the PKK started organizing meetings to commemorate April 24 as the so-called 'Armenian Genocide Day'.
