Showing Fernando Zylberberg, of the men's hockey team training across various landmarks, including, insultingly doing step ups on the war memorial of sailors that lost their lives during the 'first' Falklands war. This cheap shot by president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner's government shows just how pathetic this political party actually is. The advert was produced by Young And Rubicam and ends with the words: "To compete on English soil we train on Argentine soil."

But rather than friendly rivalry, these gangs bring crime and violence to the beloved sport. In the last 18 months, 14 people have been killed in football-related violence in Argentina, which sees rival club gangs, known as Barras Bravas, clash in brutal battle scenes. This is not just the football hooliganism seen elsewhere in the world, as these fan-based institutions are deeply entrenched within local politics, meaning few are ever brought to justice. "The violence they cause on the pitch is the same violence they bring to the unions and political parties. How can we eradicate one without the other?" The local communities are certainly trying. 'Save Football' is a grassroots project which secretly films the violence as evidence that can be used in court. However, "the Barras Bravas are a part of the system", and so it looks unlikely that these initiatives will be able to bring about change. Argentina has accused Britain of sending nuclear weapons to the disputed Falkland Islands, while United Nations leader Ban Ki-moon appealed to both sides to avoid an "escalation" of their sovereignty battle. With both countries about to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War, Argentina's Foreign Minister Hector Timerman called the islands "the last refuge of a declining empire." Timerman said Britain had sent a nuclear submarine to the South Atlantic and was "militarising the region" in breach of a 1967 Latin American treaty which bans the presence, pursuit, and use of nuclear weapons. Britain's UN ambassador said his country would "robustly" defend the Falklands, and while Britain wanted talks with Argentina, he insisted there could be no sovereignty negotiations unless the population wanted it. UK Ambassador to the UN Mark Lyall Grant said, "The charge from Mr. Timerman about militarisation of the region by the United Kingdom is manifestly absurd. Before 1982 there was a minimal defence presence on the Falkland Islands. It is only because Argentina illegally invaded the Falkland Islands in 1982 that since then we have had to increase our defence posture. Nothing has changed in that defence posture in recent months or recent years. All the issues that he referred to -- the six monthly missile tests, the deployment of ships -- have been going on for the last 30 years. El gobierno de Reino Unido no emitirá licencias para exportar productos a Argentina que puedan ser utilizados con fines militares, ante la "preocupación por las amenazas de Argentina a las islas Falkland (Malvinas)", declaró el ministro de Negocios, Innovación y Entrenamiento del Reino Unido, Vince Cable. "Estamos decididos a asegurarnos de que ningún producto de exportación o comercio británico tiene el potencial de ser utilizado por Argentina para imponer un bloqueo económico a los habitantes de las Falklands o inhibir sus derechos legítimos a desarrollar su propia economía", comentó la situación el primer ministro británico David Cameron. Esta decisión es una reacción a la declaración hecha este jueves por las autoridades argentinas, que reiteraron su voluntad de demandar a las petroleras que operan ilegalmente en las islas Malvinas si antes del 2 de mayo no presentan sus descargos. El ministro de Asuntos Exteriores de Argentina, Héctor Timerman, ha acusado en la ONU a Reino Unido de haber llevado armas nucleares al Atlántico Sur en varias ocasiones utilizando sus bases militares en la región, incluidas las de las islas Malvinas. "La información que tiene Argentina es que ellos (Reino Unido) han introducido armas nucleares en el Atlántico Sur y no es la primera vez", informó el canciller, quien acusó a Londres de violar el Tratado para la Proscripción de las Armas Nucleares en América Latina y el Caribe de 1967. Timerman, que se reunió con el Secretario General de la ONU, Ban Ki-moon, le transmitió la preocupación del país ante el hecho de que "en estos momentos, el Reino Unido es la potencia militar más importante" que hay en el Atlántico Sur y presentó "datos" sobre las "armas nucleares" británicas en la región. El martes pasado la presidenta de Argentina, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, anunció que presentará una protesta ante Naciones Unidas por la "militarización" de las islas Malvinas por parte de Reino Unido, que ocupa el archipiélago desde 1833. Las autoridades portuarias de la ciudad austral argentina de Ushuaia negaron hoy la entrada a dos cruceros británicos procedentes de las islas Malvinas, un gesto que ha sido calificado de "preocupante" por el Gobierno británico. Un portavoz del Ministerio británico de Exteriores indicó que los diplomáticos del Reino Unido en Argentina pedirán explicaciones sobre la medida, que afectó a los cruceros 'Adonia' y 'Star Princess', que habían hecho escala el sábado en las disputadas islas del Atlántico sur. El 'Adonia' se dirige ahora hacia Punta Arenas, en Chile, la próxima escala en su crucero de 87 días por Suramérica, que emprendió en Inglaterra el pasado 13 de enero, indicó la empresa Carnival, propietaria de los buques. Por su parte, el 'Star Princess' proseguirá con su ruta de 14 días que arranco el 18 de febrero en Río de Janeiro. La filial de Carnival que gestiona estos viajes dijo que las autoridades portuarias de Ushuaia esgrimieron como razón para negar la entrada a sus embarcaciones que éstas habían estado previamente en las islas Malvinas. El Reino Unido lamenta la decisión de Perú de solidarizarse con Argentina en la disputa de las islas Malvinas y cancelar la visita de la fragata británica HMS Montrose al puerto del Callao. "Las visitas de barcos son decisiones soberanas de los estados, pero nosotros lamentamos que Perú haya revocado un acuerdo previo que había sobre esta visita", indica un comunicado del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores de Gran Bretaña. Por su parte, el canciller peruano, Rafael Roncagliol, justificó la decisión por un compromiso de solidaridad latinoamericana con Argentina en el marco de Unasur. La cancelación de la visita se produce en momentos de aumento de la tensión entre Buenos Aires y Londres por la soberanía de las Malvinas. En 2011 los países de Mercosur (Argentina, Brasil, Paraguay y Uruguay) acordaron también impedir el ingreso a sus puertos de barcos con bandera de las Falklands, como llaman en inglés a las islas en las que viven unos 3.000 habitantes. A esto se sumó el malestar de Argentina por la presencia del príncipe Guillermo, segundo en la línea de sucesión al trono británico, en el archipiélago y por el envío de un buque de guerra.
