Against a colorful and visually captivating rural scenario in Argentine Mesopotamia, this film depicts the life and works of poet and reciter Edgar Estigarribia (1923-1989) and his enduring contribution to Argentine culture: the addition of poetry to Chamamé music, a joyful and deeply rhythmic folk style. The compulsive, self-taught creator recorded more than 200 lyrical recitations for popular albums. Due to his talent and charisma, the gloss (a musical theme's introductory poem) was incorporated into Chamamé music - one of the richest, most danceable and joyful rhythms of Argentine folklore. The story is narrated by Edgar himself, and by those who knew him, through spontaneous interview fragments replete with universal humor, tragedy and affection, showing both sides of the coin. A host of video-clips illustrate the recorded poems that go along with his own life, including the appearances of the people, things and places that inspired them. Mysteriously, Edgar's free, bohemian and generous spirit turns omnipresent... In 2004, the poets Jerome Rothenberg and Cecilia Vicuña set out on a poetic journey to South America. They performed and met wiyh poets in four countries: Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. Cecilia called the journey Sudamerisa. In this video they visit the poet Nicanor Parra, in his house at Las Cruces, in the coast of Chile. Also present are Cecilia's parents Jorge and Norma Vicuña, Diane Rothenberg, Peter Kroeger Claussen, José de Nordenflyct, Ariane Braillard & Francis Cincotta. Filmed by Ignacio Poblete, October 2004.

Next we have a story about a rather unique art exhibition in Argentina. Our correspondent in Buenos Aires has the details. Bonsai artist and writer Kuo Chinghai, held an exhibition of his work on his seventieth birthday. Kuo says that art is a very good way to show the essence of things and that he'd had the desire to practice Bonsai from an early age. [Kuo Chinghai, Bonsai Artist and Writer]: "I have no money to offer, but I have the essence, the culture to offer to the Argentineans, so I did this exhibition." Kuo has been living in Argentina for 25 years and this influence can be seen in his art and poetry, especially in his poems dedicated to the seasons. The exhibition covers a wide scope of his work - for example, several ballads, poems, a transcript of the Diamond Sutra, and even a bonsai named Tango. [Kuo Chinghai, Bonsai Artist and Writer]: "Bonsai originated in China 800 to 1000 years ago, then expanded to Japan, Korea and Taiwan. But different places had different conditions and used different materials." Kuo wants to pass on his Bonsai knowledge--in part as a way of spreading his native Taiwanese culture. He also sees himself as creating a knew style of Bonsai, unique to Argentina. To this end, he tries to absorb as much of the essence of Argentinian culture as possible. please read this description :) i wrote this poem a little over two years ago. i wrote this when i was in a dark place, andi only wanted to die. i am living proof that you can get out of that dark place one day, and learn to enjoy life. everyone who reads this, thank you. everyone who can relate to this, i really hope you make it through. because there is so much on life that you can do , maybe even tell your story one day, like me. there is hope in everyone, and i know that you can all make it through this. i have faith in you all. for those of you that have nothing nice to say about this, go fuck yourselves. suicide is a topic that is not meant to be critisized, because you need to think about other people for once, and just wonder about what they may be going through. you don't know that if that comment that you put on this page, is the last thing someone will read. i encourage everyone to go to myspace ( even if you don't have one ) and check out to write love on her arms. it is a suicide prevention foundation, and it helped me out of my dark spot in life, so i know it will help you too. remember that you are loved, and that you will make it through this, and most of all, that rescue is possibly. i love you all.
