CLA staff recently visited Argentina to meet with Mr. Roberto Peiretti of Argentina's No-Till Farmers Association. His leading farm operation is implementing amazing no-till practices and technologies. CLA was introduced to Mr. Peiretti by CropLife Latin America's Dr. Guillermo Cal, CASAFE's former executive director for many years (CASAFE is CropLife's national association for Argentina). Both are interviewed in this video about how Modern Agriculture practices have contributed to increased yields in Argentina. CLA is now looking for additional follow-up opportunities to connect Peiretti with counterpart farmers in the US to expound upon practical implementation of no-till strategies and advancements, creatively pushing new concepts for modern herbicide technologies, biotechnologies and other farming technologies to gain greater sustainability and farm productivity.

After four years of hard work, searching for the best place to grow vicunas in South America, the Schneider Group has identified in the Region of Catamarca, in the northern part of Argentina, a mountainous area with an altitude between 4000 and 5000 meter above sea level. There we've bought 108000 hectares rich of lagoons and good pastures, where we've estimated to live between 6000 to 8000 heads of vicunas.

Farmers in Argentina are facing competition from foreign firms that want to buy up land to plant crops. In the southern Patagonia region, China's Beidahuang food company plans to lease over 300 thousand hectares of land to grow genetically modified soya, corn and other crops. The Chinese have also agreed to invest in infrastructure and to rebuild the badly damaged water irrigation system in the area. But locals are worried about the environmental damage that comes with the excessive use of agrochemicals involved in large scale farming. Al Jazeera's Teresa Bo reports from Rio Negro.
