A Brief History of the Black Roots of Argentine Tango
Duration : 899 Seconds

When Darnell posted this blog over 4 years ago, "Tango and Milonga: A Close Relationship", I barely understood that Tango had African roots. When I was struggling with Milonga over 2 years ago, a kind lady suggested that I look up "Candombe" and "Cayengue". She also suggested the book, "Tango: The Art of Love" by Robbert Farris. I looked up the terms, and I purchased the book, which goes into lavish detail about the Black roots of Tango. There was something about the fact that Milonga was "African" that inspired me to keep at it. I mean, after all, if these other guys could do it, certainly I must be capable of doing it. At least, that was my motivation. And, it worked. I saw the same lady at a milonga about a year ago. At that time, I was beginning to talk up our "Diversify Your Dance" workshops and our show, "The History of Black Dance in America". She suggested that I add a demonstration of Candombe and Cayengue. In my mind, I said, "Yeah, right." The show came and went two weeks ago. By this time, I had been immersed in dance history for over a year. When I was asked to do a lecture on Tango for the !MpactPeople after-school program this weekend at the Clear Creek Camp, I realized that I wanted to not only talk about the history of Tango, but the history of it's Black roots. This is my initial effort. YouTube clips include Valeria Solomonoff and Omar Vega at Blue Moon Milonga, New York 2006 www.youtube.com and Anna e Osvaldo - El Chamuyo www.youtube.com Narrated by ...

20th Century Battlefields - Falklands War
Duration : 3526 Seconds

Documentary about the Falklands War presented by historian father and son Peter and Dan Snow Funny thing, Argentina has screamed "THE UK HAS DEPLOYED NUCLEAR WEAPONS IN THE SOUTH ATLANTIC!!", conveniently forgetting the Vanguard class SSNs can hit Buenos Aires from HMNB Clyde; their home port . . . ;) As much as people want to argue history, all that matters now is the decision of the Falklands Islanders. If they wanted to become Argentinian, I would support that decision as would the British government. You may not agree with what the islanders say but you can't deny them the right to speak for themselves.

Economic Collapse part 1:What happened in Argentina
Duration : 900 Seconds

After years of lending by the IMF and the peso pegged to the dollar, the situation reached a breaking point in 2001. 20% unnemployment, alternative bons like the Patacon and Lecop being printed since we couldn't print dollars. The elite had moved their money out of the country and when the average citizen tried to close his accounts, they were frozen, to later be converted to devaluated pesos losing 70% of their value. Argentina defaulted on its 132 billion usd debt, largest default in history. www.themodernsurvivalist.com

Lithuania - Argentina Highlights (FIBA World Championship 2010 Turkey)
Duration : 205 Seconds

ISTANBUL (2010 FIBA World Championship) -- Lithuania stunned Argentina 104-85 to close the Quarterfinals of the FIBA World Championship at the Sinar Erdem Dome. Now Lithuania plays the USA in the semifinals on Saturday, September 11. Lithuania was head to head with Argentina in the first couple of minutes but their sticky man to man defense, focused on Scola and that didn't allow any passes inside nor any comfortable shots, gave them all the confidence to start their run. The Lithuanians took off with an 8-0 run to be up 17-10 after a basket by Robertas Javkotas with 4:06 left. Then Argentina came back with a 5-0 run that finished with an amazing steal, behind the back dribble and dunk with a foul by Hernan Jasen with 1:48 to close the game 21-17. That play by Jasen was supposed to be the spark that the Argentineans needed, but the Lithuanians never lost their composure and continued to hit from behind the arc after a three pointer by Tomas Delininkaitis and then a two point field goal by him finished the first quarter up 28-18. In the second quarter it was when it all fell apart for Argentina as Lithuania kept their balanced attack, perfect shooting from long distance as they connected their first eight three pointers with success and a suffocating defense. Argentina tried to find Scola, who only had two points in the first quarter, and responded with some made shots. The Argentineans never made a three pointer in the first half and they went down 50-30 after a tip-in at ...

Argentina - Rugby
Duration : 251 Seconds

Los Pumas is Argentinas national rugby team and some sort of step child in the rugbys world. Currently ranked #3, is the only tier-one team that has no regular competition. Some of the main obstacles to participate in international leagues include restrictions from the rugby union government body, Argentina's distance from other major rugby powers, and the fact that domestic rugby remains strictly amateur. Taking a similar approach to the old Olympic Committees, the Argentinean Rugby Association was unique in keeping its professional players from playing in the national team. Los Pumas epic performance in the 2007 World Cup, winning all but one match brought back the discussion about ending the isolation of the team. To feed the myth of outcasts, Los Pumas were surprisingly drawn in the only pool were three tier-one teams competed, featuring France and Ireland and henceforth called pool of death. France was the host nation and two-year running Six Nations champion, meanwhile Ireland had eliminated Los Pumas in a nail-biting and controversial game in the previous World Cup. In that opportunity the fixture required Argentina to play four physical rugby games in a fortnight, whereas Ireland played the same number of games in four weeks. Argentina was scheduled to open the World Cup at the Stadium of France against the French; it was the third time in the last three World Cup in which Los Pumas had to play against the host nation in the World Cup opener. Los Pumas silenced ...

World Cup Final 1990 Argentina-West Germany (English commentary)
Duration : 882 Seconds

The most controversial and scandalous final in World Cup history. West Germany, the best team of the tournament deserved to win the title, but not this way. The refereeing looked so blatantly biased that it raises up many questions and suspicions even after 20 years. It was a dreadful game because of the Mexican referee, and a disgrace to football in every possible way. Argentina had 4 key players suspended, thus Bilardo was forced to use very defensive 5-4-1 formation so the game was bound to be boring. Argentina 1990 team has a bad reputation but at least you must admit that their defense was extremely solid and tough. Germany got only one shot on goal in this game. This composition doesn't have much footage of the actual game because there was very little football actually played.

Iron Maiden - Phantom Of The Opera (Argentina 2009)
Duration : 453 Seconds

Iron maiden live in Argentina 2009. Somewhere Back in Time World Tour was a concert tour by Iron Maiden in 2008 and 2009 to promote the DVD release of their 1985 concert video Live After Death, a second installment in a series of DVD re-releases of concerts, supported by tours, titled "The History of Iron Maiden". To tie in with the tour, a new greatest hits compilation - Somewhere Back In Time - The Best Of: 1980-1989 - was also released. These combined with Iron Maiden's Bruce Airways service (where singer Bruce Dickinson flies fans to concerts) and their most expansive merchandise campaign - including an individual tour shirt for each concert among other things - mean this tour was heralded as the band's most important in many years. Many of the band's songs had not been played in a long time, as much as 21 years in one case, and two of them ("Moonchild" and "Rime of the Ancient Mariner") never played by the current line-up. A subsequent tour documentary titled Flight 666 was released in April 2009 with an accompanying DVD and soundtrack, with a limited release of the documentary into cinemas. The World Slavery Tour's stage had been the biggest and most complicated the band ever designed, but a number of modifications were made for this tour. The tour used an updated version of the band's 1984-5 World Slavery Tour stage set, which carried an Ancient Egyptian theme, and the band played a set focussing on the 1980s - specifically the years when albums Powerslave (1984 ...

Argentina's Economic Collapse - Part 1 of 12
Duration : 395 Seconds

Part 2: au.youtube.com Documentary on the events that led to the economic collapse of Argentina in 2001 which wiped out the middle class and raised the level of poverty to 57.5%. Central to the collapse was the implementation of neo-liberal policies which enabled the swindle of billions of dollars by foreign banks and corporations. Many of Argentina's assets and resources were shamefully plundered. Its financial system was even used for money laundering by Citibank, Credit Suisse, and JP Morgan. The net result was massive wealth transfers and the impoverishment of society which culminated in many deaths due to oppression and malnutrition. Official name: Memoria del Saqueo by Fernando Solanas 2003.
