Argentina's campaign to protect tango heritage
Duration : 277 Seconds

The 2010 International Tango Festival has just concluded in Argentina, and it paid special tribute to the bandoneon, the instrument that gives the dance its unique sound. But the distinctive sound of the tango as we know it could be under threat. In this week's Latin American Focus on Al Jazeera, Lucia Newman reports on efforts to protect this age-old instrument from extinction. (Sept 04, 2010)

Touring Buenos Aires. Argentina Travel Trip. November 2011
Duration : 177 Seconds

Buenos Aires: The tour began in the capital city of Buenos Aires. Beth and I arrived the day before the official start of the tour. We spent our first afternoon wandering along the river at Puerto Madero, taking in the atmosphere of this redeveloped area which has become an upscale area. On Sunday, Beth and I walked to down Florida Street and took in the sights and sounds as vendors set up their wares down the middle of the mall. Lunch was the official start of the tour, after which, we were given an overview of the city. Sole, our guide, then took us to some flea markets and the Jose Hernandez Museum. Nature conquers humans: industrial heritage molested by animals
Duration : 434 Seconds

Leith Harbour on the subantarctic island of South Georgia was a centre of the whaling industry until 1965. Thousands of whales were butchered and made into oil by the men working here in harsh conditions. The buildings are still there, but are now inhabited by fur seals, penguins and elephant seals. One of the features in the video is the pile of scrap metal made by an Argentinian in 1982. By planting the argentinian flag while working here he and his men claimed the island for their country. It was the beginning of the monthlong occupation of the island by thee Argentinians during the Falkland-war. Now, all that remains are memories of the men that lived here, and the smell of farting elephant seals. South Georgia is a near uninhabited island in the south Atlantic ocean, home to millions of seals and birds. The only human population is a small group of scientists from the British Antarctic Survey. We visited the island with a private yacht and stayed for 1,5 months to sail all along the northern coast.

Salta to Cachi (and back): Argentina Travel Trip. November 2011
Duration : 511 Seconds

Salta to Cachi (and back): Argentina Travel Trip. Leaving beautiful Purmamarca, we traveled by bus in the capable hands of our driver, Pepe to Salta. Salta has a population of 700000 and is a beautiful city with strong Spanish Colonial influences. We visited the Museum of High Altitude Archaeology which focuses on the Incas and their world, including an incredible exhibit of the mummified remains of three children and their belongings uncovered by archaeologists in 1999 at he summit of nearby Llullaillaco Volcano, one of 60 such sites in Salta Province. Our short stay also included a walk through town and a ride to a park above the city for an overview. From Salta,Pepe took us along the Cuesta del Obispo and into Los Cardones National Park. We had lunch in Valle Encantada and then went on to Cachi for the evening. Before returning to Salta, we went to Molinos and Seclantas to visit the Road of Artisans and the Guzman family, noted weavers. The Vicuna Foundation, dedicated to preserving and promoting vicuna wool, and the town museum were our two stops in Molinos.
