Andorra la Vella is the highest capital city in Europe, with an elevation of 4620 feet. The rapid waters of the Valira River flow through the capital and are included in the footage. Andorre-la-Vieille est à la fois une paroisse et la capitale de la Principauté dAndorre. Située à 1 400 m daltitude, cest la capitale la plus élevée dEurope. Née véritablement en 1278 lorsque les coprinces français et espagnol créèrent la Principauté, cest le centre commercial, politique et culturel du pays. Des festivals de musique, de danse et de théâtre se déroulent au Centre culturel de La Llacuna tandis que le tout nouveau Centre des Congrès et son auditorium de 900 places accueillent de nombreuses manifestations. La visite de la vieille ville permet de découvrir un ensemble pittoresque composé de rues anciennes, de maisons traditionnelles et dédifices où le bois, le granit et le fer forgé permettent de découvrir les traditions de la culture andorrane. Les plus remarquables de ces édifices sont léglise de Santa Coloma, témoin de lart roman du pays, et la Casa de la Vall (la Maison des Vallées), construite au début du XVIIe siècle et où, depuis 1707, siège le Parlement.
