There are several UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Algeria including Al Qal'a of Beni Hammad, the first capital of the Hammadid empire; Tipasa, a Phoenician and later Roman town; and Djémila and Timgad, both Roman ruins; M'Zab Valley, a limestone valley containing a large urbanized oasis; also the Casbah of Algiers is an important citadel. ICCD (Istituto Centrale per la Catalogazione e la Documentazione) and the RMSU have produced a short film on Euromed Heritage on behalf of the European Commission EuropeAid Cooperation Office. The film, in English, French and Italian, consists of a short introduction outlining the programme. Then follow 3 separate reports made by an independent film maker, on projects and their diverse activities in Algeria, Egypt and Malta. The activities reflect the development of a selection of projects and their achievements at different phases of the programme. Whilst the attempt was made to reflect the full diversity of the Euromed Heritage programme, it has not been possible to include images from all the projects available. ICCD and the RMSU have made all efforts to best reflect actors and projects and apologize for any inaccuracies and interpretation in the final text. This is a continuation on exploring Moorish Architecture in North Africa. This part 2 looks at Algeria's Moorish Heritage ancient and present. These images depict the rich regional variations and the omnipresent Moorish character. One Ancient site is particularly interesting and that is Kalaat bani hamad in Kabylie declared unesco world heritage site. This fortified Berber city of the Hammadid dynasty was founded in 1007 but completely destroyed in 1152 by the Berber rival Almuwahid dynasty. The tower of beni hammad was first of its kind and served as an Architectural blueprint for building the famous Koutoubia mosque in Marrakesh that was completed under the Almowahad Caliph Yaqub al-Mansur.

Samir Nasri (born 26 June 1987) is a French professional footballer of Algerian heritage who plays for Arsenal in the Premier League and for the French national team. A naturally right-footed player, also effective on his weaker side, Nasri plays as a winger for Arsenal; however, he has also been deployed in central midfield in the absence of Cesc Fàbregas due to injury. During his time at boyhood club Olympique de Marseille, Nasri's Algerian background, technical prowess and playmaking on the field earned him direct comparisons to French football great Zinedine Zidane -- and the mantle of the 'French Pele'. Nasri was a regular for France at the youth level and was a member of the country's UEFA Euro 2008 squad, though he saw limited playing time. In a surprising move by French coach Raymond Domenech, he was left out of the 2010 French World Cup team.

Brutal massacres against French civilians in public areas were committed alongside horrendous reprisals by the French army against Arab and Berber civilians. The Islamic revolution, led primarily (but not solely) by the National Liberation Front (FLN), was such a costly disaster for the French that it in many ways led to the collapse of the 4th French Republic and ostensibly the loss of France's colonies in the subsequent years. Portugal would soon experience the same disaster in Mozambique and Angola. The Islamic revolution in Algeria was under the banner of pan-Arabism, pan-Islamism, and Arab socialism. A national anthem is entitled to evoke patriotic emotions at the same time displaying the rich heritage and culture of the country. Likewise the national anthem of Algeria also stands for the vibrant traditional culture and heritage of the country as well as epoch making history of the country which has left behind some indelible marks. The significance of the national anthem of Algeria lies in the fact that it attempts to showcase the moments of freedom struggle of Algerian war of independence. It is written in Arabic and is popularly known as Kassaman or Qassaman' in English it is termed as (The Pledge). After the achievement of independence from the French regime, the song was formally adopted as the Algerian national anthem in the year 1963. The lyric of this national song was written by Mufdi Zakariah and music was given by Mohamed Fawzi. Kassaman (arabe : قَسَمًا) a été adopté comme hymne national par l'Algérie peu après son indépendance, en 1963[1]. Ses paroles ont été écrites par le poète nationaliste Moufdi Zakaria le 25 avril 1955, utilisant son sang comme encre sur les murs, alors qu'il était dans la prison de Barberousse[2] à Alger. Timgad lies on the northern slopes of the Aurès mountains and was created ex nihilo as a military colony by the Emperor Trajan in AD 100. With its square enclosure and orthogonal design based on the cardo and decumanus, the two perpendicular routes running through the city, it is an excellent example of Roman town planning. whc.unesco.org
