Afghanistan ( No WAR ) part 1 of 3
Duration : 1034 Seconds

Afġānistān, officially the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (Persian: جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان, Pashto: د افغانستان اسلامى جمهوريت ), is a landlocked country that is located in the heart of Asia. It is variously designated as located geographically within Central Asia[4], the Middle East[5], or South Asia[6]. It has religious, ethno-linguistic, and geographic links with most of its neighbors. It is bordered by Pakistan in the south and east,[7] Iran in the west, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in the north, and China in the far northeast. The name Afghanistan means the "Land of Afghans." Afghanistan is a culturally mixed nation, a crossroads between the East and the West, and has been an ancient focal point of trade and migration. It has an important geostrategical location, connecting South Asia, Central Asia and Southwest Asia. During its long history, the land has seen various invaders and conquerors, while on the other hand, local entities invaded the surrounding vast regions to form empires to themselves. Ahmad Shah Durrani created a large empire in the middle of the eighteenth century, with its capital at Kandahar.[8] Subsequently, most of its territories were ceded to former neighboring countries. In the 19th century, Afghanistan became a buffer state in "The Great Game" played between the British Indian Empire and Russian Empire. On August 19, 1919, following the third Anglo-Afghan war, the country regained full independence from the United Kingdom over its foreign affairs. Since the late 1970s, Afghanistan has suffered continuous and brutal civil war, which included foreign interventions in the form of the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the 2001 US invasion of Afghanistan, in which the ruling Taliban government was toppled. In December 2001, the United Nations Security Council authorized the creation of an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). This force, composed of NATO troops, has been involved in assisting the government of President Hamid Karzai in establishing authority across the nation. In 2005, the United States and Afghanistan signed a strategic partnership agreement committing both nations to a long-term relationship. In the meantime, about 40 billion US dollars have also been provided by the international community for the reconstruction of the country. Despite this, as of November 2007, the British Government was still advising against all travel to most of Afghanistan due to "ongoing military activity and lawlessness".

Aussie Army Diggers in Afghanistan Ambush by Taliban
Duration : 129 Seconds

They are the Australian artillery gunners fighting the Taliban on the front line of the war on terrorism, killing dozens of rebel fighters - but also saving countless coalition troops - during an action-packed five-month tour in Afghanistan's troubled Helmand Province. It is men like the Darwin-based gunners from the 8/12 Field Regiment who are doing the hard yards and taking the fight right to the Taliban. Their 105mm howitzers have a range of 16km and are accurate to within a metre, killing everything within a radius of 350m. Our special interactive section: Afghanistan - exclusive video, multi-media - see for the first time the brave work our Diggers are doing behind-the-scenes to rebuild Afghanistan and fight the most evil forces in the world Many of the shells land just 2km from the perimeter wire of Armadillo, the Australian section of the British forward operating base, so the men often see the devastating results of their handiwork. The situation on the ground is so confused that our special forces troops are in the frame for killing a district governor during a fire fight with Afghan police. Now they have spoken of their life in the war zone and their strong sense of duty that gets them through when I visited them on the frontline.

Afghan Jihad - Afghanistan
Duration : 1696 Seconds

October 2007 In 1979 the mujahiddin of Afghanistan rebelled against an Soviet-backed central government. The US threw its financial and technological resources behind the rebel movement, offering support in any way it could. We travel into the remote Kumar Valley and find that back in 1979 the US was arming the likes Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and his organisation Hizb-e-Islamia - the very group now waging a vicious counter insurgency against Allied forces.
