| | Beauty in Devastation - Afghanistan Duration : 845 Seconds Travelling with Medecin Sans Frontier, the artist has the opportunity to speak to thousands of Afghans clinging on to an existence in the devastated country.Through his films, photography, paintings and writing, Gittoe takes us on a journey through Afghanistan in the aftermath of the American attacks Portraying the suffering witnessed in refugee camps and by those injured and killed by landmines, his work is about "the individuals, the normal human beings that are mashed by the machine". Yet not all that he sees is pain and devastation. He discovers moments of beauty and light amongst the desolation of Afghanistan. His work documents the joyous spectacle of an Afghan wedding, with the crowds dancing and playing music around the happy bride. He is pleased to discover evidence of the "resilience of the human spirit". But Afghanistan's prospects seem bleak. "There's not an intelligent person in Afghanistan who doesn't believe that the country's on the verge of civil war." For him, the soldiers of each side are like young fighting dogs "heavily armed and ready to go once their masters let them off their leashes." This poignant film conveys a strong sense of the suffering of Afghanistan's people, whilst reminding us of the country's forgotten beauty. | | How circus is blossoming in Afghanistan. Duration : 285 Seconds This video is made by "Kamel", a French Moroccan world traveler who was in Bamyan and saw how a circus play ground was put together in only 3 days. The children in this video are all from Bamyan province and are beginners in circus but now with a circus base and circus teachers stationed in their province they are becoming better day by day. Afghan Children in Bamyan can now lean and improve their artistic skills in arts such as acrobatic, juggling, painting, theater, singing. In the winter 2008 MMCC received a container full of amazing equipments for our circus. The container itself was part of the present, and has now been modified into a home for permanent MMCC activities in Bamyan. In one part of the container we have made an isolated sleeping room for MMCC's Bamyan staff, who have been trained in our center in Kabul for a year. The other part is full of circus equipment, acrobatic mattresses and plenty of other amazing things. Our goal is that the Bamyan container will become a model for many more Circus Homes in other provinces in the years to come. A model for plenty of activities for thousands of children with a relatively very low cost. The 16th of May we celebrated the opening of Bamyan-MMCC with a big performance for more than 1500 audiences. The modification of the container took place in MMCC's center in Kabul, and lasted literally until the container was sent to Bamyan. The final night it was welded, painted and packed until 3 am in the morning. At 5 am the ... Tags :Afghanistan, child, friendly, environment, Bamyan, افغانستان, بامیان, سرکس
