This is me (Iñaki Piérola @Inaki7) singing a Basque song with Welsh children. I spent 2 months doing my teaching practice in Llanfairpwll (Wales) and I thought that I'd be nice to sing a Basque song with children from years 5-6 (9, 10 and 11 years old; they didn't know any Basque). They were really interested in learning about Basque culture! We prepared the song in just 2 weeks and at the end, we added the instruments; piano (a teacher), drums (a 9yo student) and the guitar (me) This song is written by Ken Zazpi and it's called "Ilargia", a pop-rock band from Gernika (Basque Country). I have to say that I had a really good time in Wales and ....yep, welsh people are really nice!! ... enjoy the video! Kaixo guztioi! The Variations on a Basque Melody are based on a folk chant from the Basque region of France, and unfold in the familiar, Mediterranean manner of various figurations around an underlying melody. The Variations on a Basque Melody (© 2005) are played here by Ferdinand Binnendijk, one of the mandolin players of Het CONSORT, on an Embergher (Pecoraro) concert mandolin model N. 5bis. Victor Kioulaphides was born in Athens, Greece, and moved to New York in 1979 where he studied double bass and composition at The Juilliard School and The Manhattan School of Music. Today he is a Member of ASCAP, American Music Center, American Federation of Musicians and his compositions are ie published by the Liben Music Publishers and the New York Classical Guitar Society. Besides his busy activities as a classical double bass player is a faculty member at the Lucy Moses School for Music and Dance.
