The controversial song by Bok van Blerk about the Anglo-Boer War that caused an outcry of indignation in South Africa. As the British tried to do a hundred years ago, the black majority government is now trying to suppress the Afrikaner nation's culture - and in fact all traces of their history. Public funding is being withdrawn from Afrikaner monuments, even though Afrikaners contribute more than their share to tax income. Millions are being spent on changing the names of towns, streets etc. while little is done to maintain infrastructure. The new generation of Afrikaners had nothing to do with Apartheid, yet they are faced with a bleak future, suffering under racial discrimination in the form of affirmative action. Although this excludes them from jobs and promotion beyond a certain level, it also stimulates entrepreneurship and innovative thinking. The Afrikaner nation will rise again to take its place in the country their forefathers helped to build and develop.

Freddy Quinn is an Austrian singer and actor whose popularity within the German-speaking world soared in the late 1950s and 1960s. Here he sings Hendrik Susan's "Huisie in die Berge" (Little House in the Mountains), one of several Afrikaans songs he recorded in 1964. As far as I know this song is out of print, but a previously released box set, "Fernweh und Sehnsucht" (Wanderlust and Longing) is sometimes available online. As some of you propably already know, the band i play in is called Inslowmotion. We recently finished recording our self-titled debut full length album, which will be released early next year. The Hybrid Series will contain 5 of our songs, so you guys can hear what we sound like, also so you can hear what type of drum parts i write myself :) The 5 songs that will be uploading will be three english songs, and two Afrikaans songs. As i always say, these video's are to be viewed as live performances, NOT studio recordings. I don't hold back, i don't underplay.. this was fun and I totally went out to enjoy it :) Critique in terms of originally written performances is always difficult, since it is so very very subjective; that said, i will LOVE to hear what you guys think of our material, please rate the video and leave comments, it'll be MUCH appreciated. FROM THE HEART OF AN AFRIKANER Bok van Blerk, born Louis Pepler March 30, 1978, is a South African musician who sings in Afrikaans. He became famous in 2006 for his rendition of 'Delarey', a tribute to the Boer general, Koos de la Rey, who was regarded as one of the strongest military leaders during the British-Boer conflict during the Second Boer War (1899 -- 1902). The 'Delarey' song rose to instant popularity among many White South Africans, and especially the Afrikaners-speaking folk. It caused a slight stir among government officials during February 2007 when they erroneously interpreted the lyrics as a call to armed battle. I suppose the ANC government must have crapped themselves when their (un)intelligent service reported that some people attending Bok van Blerk's concerts were displaying the old South African flag and the Transvaal Vierkleur. (The Orange Free State Vierkleur is shown in the De La Rey video as part of the period scene depicted in the song and video). The video can be viewed here. Van Blerk himself says that he does not identify himself with the old South African flag, nor does he want to be associated with it. But he does promote Afrikaans and has refused to participate in the concert organised by the 94.7 Highveld Stereo radio station because of their policy not to play Afrikaans music.
